Red Bulls practice report

Hello all, apologies for not posting this earlier but I got caught up doing other things. For those of you wondering who looked good at the Red Bulls practice session for supplemental draft picks and non-roster invitees on Tuesday, here is a rundown of the players who caught my eye:

Michael Palacio– Was very active all over the field and showed a good nose for the attack. Scored a nice goal and combined well with his teammates. Good size and good motor, may still be a bit raw to be a first-team contributor but a roster spot looks good.

Matt Kassel– The kid is good. He has good vision, good ideas, a good motor and showed better quickness than I expected. He delivers good long passes and has a bright future. I would be shocked if the Red Bulls don’t sign him before April.

Tighe Dombrowski– He’s small (5-8) but Dombrowski looked pretty good as a central defender. He’s tenacious and passes well.

Marshall Leonard- Still fast and still strong, Leonard is a great option for the Red Bulls given the things Juan Carlos Osorio wants to do with his formations. Leonard can play fullback or wing in a 3-5-2 and left back in a 4-4-2. He will be battling with Chris Leitch and Kevin Goldthwaite for a roster spot and I think he’s a good bet to make the team.

Scott Palguta– Big defender with good size, Palguta impressed as a left back/center back combo. Osorio mentioned him as a player he liked on Tuesday. Can he compete with Eric Brunner? We’ll find out later in the week.

Christian Camacho– Skillful and tough defensive midfielder may dribble a bit too much for Osorio’s liking but he showed well on Tuesday.

If I didn’t mention a player that doesn’t mean they were bad, just that they didn’t catch my attention on Tuesday. I will be back at training on Wednesday to get another look at these players.

  1. I interviewed Mike Palacio for an article when he was in high school and he was a very nice kid with a real team-first philosophy. It’s good to see him succeeding at this level.
