Unlike their American counterparts, CONCACAF players enjoyed a strong showing in leagues throughout Europe last weekend.
From Honduran midfielder Julio Cesar Leon (pictured) scoring for Genoa to Canadian forward Rob Friend netting a pair of Borussia Monchengladbach, there were plenty of positives for the CONCACAF players in Europe’s top leagues.
Here is a rundown of how they did this weekend:
CANADA
- Julian DeGuzman started and played 90 minutes in Deportivo La Coruna’s 2-0 win vs. Espanyol on Sunday.
- Jonathan DeGuzman started and played 81 minutes in Feyenoord’s 3-3 tie vs. Heracles Almelo on Saturday.
- Paul Stalteri started and played 90 minutes in Fulham’s 1-0 loss to West Ham United on Saturday.
- Will Johnson dressed but did not play in DeGraafschap’s 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven on Sunday.
- Daniel Imhof started and played 90 minutes in VFL Bochum’s 2-1 win vs. Hannover 96 on Friday.
- Iain Hume started and played 90 minutes in Leceister City’s 2-0 loss to Coventry City on Saturday.
- Patrice Bernier, Josh Simpson and Kaiserslautern faces Borussia Monchengladbach on Monday.
- Rob Friend started, played 90 minutes and scored two goals in Borussia Monchengladbach’s 2-2 tie vs. VfL Osnabruck on Sunday.
- Kevin McKenna started, played 39 minutes and drew a red card in FC Cologne’s 0-0 tie vs. 1860 Munich on Friday.
- Jason Devos started and played 90 minutes in Ipswich Town’s 1-0 loss to Stoke on Saturday.
- Tomas Radzinski did not play in Skoda Xanthi’s 1-1 tie vs. Larissa on Sunday.
- Tam Nsaliwa did not play in AEK Athens’ 1-0 win vs. Iraklis.
- Marcel De Jong started and played 83 minutes in Roda JC’s 1-1 tie vs. Vitesse Arnhem on Saturday.
- Richard Hastings started and played 90 minutes in Inverness’ 2-0 loss to Hibernian on Sunday.
COSTA RICA
- Bryan Ruiz started and played 90 minutes in KAA Gent’s 0-0 tie vs. Standard Liege on Saturday.
- Alvaro Saborio started and played 90 minutes in FC Sion Sitten’s 3-1 loss to Young Boys on Sunday.
GRENADA
- Jason Roberts came off the bench, played eight minutes and delivered an assist in Blackburn’s 4-1 win vs. Bolton on Sunday.
HONDURAS
- David Suazo started and played 90 minutes in Inter Milan’s 1-1 tie vs. Sampdoria on Sunday.
- Edgar Alvarez came off the bench and played 13 minutes in Livorno’s 2-1 loss to Napoli on Sunday.
- Julio Cesar Leon started, played 84 minutes and scored a goal in Genoa’s 5-3 win against Udinese on Sunday.
- Wilson Palacios started, played 90 minutes and assisted on a goal in Wigan’s 2-0 win vs. Derby County on Saturday.
JAMAICA
- Nyron Nosworthy started and played 90 minutes in Sunderland’s 1-0 loss to Portsmouth on Saturday.

- Damion Stewart came off the bench and played 17 minutes for Queens Park Rangers.

- Giovani Dos Santos came off the bench and played nine minutes in Barcelona’s 4-1 win vs. Levante on Saturday.
- Rafael Marquez did not dress for Barcelona.
- Carlos Vela started, played 87 minutes and scored a goal in Osasuna’s 3-1 win vs. Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
- Guillermo Franco started, played 89 minutes and scored a goal in Villarreal’s 2-1 vs. Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
- Pavel Pardo started and played 90 minutes in Stuttgart’s 3-1 win vs. Karlsruhe on Saturday.
- Ricardo Osorio did not dress for Stuttgart.
- Carlos Salcido started and played 90 minutes in PSV Eindhoven’s 4-1 win against DeGraafschap on Sunday.
- Aaron Galindo started and played 90 minutes in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 1-0 win against Werder Bremen on Saturday.
- Hector Moreno dressed but did not play in AZ Alkmaar’s 0-0 tie vs. Twente Enschede on Saturday.
- Antonio DeNigris started and played 90 minutes in Ankaraspor’s 3-0 loss to Keyserispor on Sunday.
NETHERLANDS ANTILLES

- Nyron Wau started and played 90 minutes in Roda JC’s 1-1 tie vs. Vitesse Arnhem on Saturday.
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
- Kenwyne Jones started and played 90 minutes in Sunderland’s 1-0 loss to Portsmouth on Saturday.
- Dwight Yorke came off the bench and played 11 minutes for Sunderland.
- Darryl Roberts started and played 77 minutes in Sparta Rotterdam’s 2-1 win against FC Utrecht on Friday.
- Stern John started and played 90 minutes in Southampton’s 1-1 tie vs. Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
- Chris Birchall did not dress in Coventry City’s 2-0 win vs. Leceister City on Saturday.
- Russell Latapy came off the bench and played 45 minutes in Falkirk’s 0-0 tie vs. Dundee United on Saturday.
