Morning Ticker: Lippi eyes EPL, Taylor set to return and Hamburg targets Bilic

Good morning and a Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all of you early bird SBI readers.

It is a slow Monday, which is just as well considering how crazy the weekend was. From the unreal Mexico-Haiti Olympic Qualifier to Fulham’s crucial victory against Everton, there was plenty to watch and enjoy this weekend.

Since we already touched on the weekend’s best stories already, here are a few tidbits to tide you over this Monday morning.

Lippi eyes EPL

Italian World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi is a smart man, so it should come as no surprise that he would throw his hat in the ring for potential jobs in the English Premier League. Considering the king’s ransom his compatriot Fabio Capello managed to score to coach the English national team, one can only wonder how much Lippi could yield on the open market.

Taylor ready to return

Birmingham defender Martin Taylor has yet to play since delivering that fateful tackle on Arsenal striker Eduardo, but he is close to coming back. Taylor is set to play for Birmingham’s reserves on Tuesday as he works his way back to match fitness.

Hamburg targets Bilic

Croatian national team coach Slaven Bilic is one of the best young coaches in the European game and is drawing serious interest from clubs hoping to pry him away from Croatia after Euro 2008. German club Hamburg is at the top of the list of teams trying to hire him for next season. I’m sure England fans will be sad to see him go.

That’s all for now. I will be checking back in shortly with some more news and notes so stay tuned.
