Richards going for MRI

Red Bulls midfielder Dane Richards is set to have an MRI on his injured right knee later today, but the Jamaican winger said it is feeling better and the swelling has gone down.

An x-ray revealed that Richards’ medial collateral ligament was, in fact, stretched after facing a harsh challenge in the Red Bulls’ 1-0 scrimmage loss to Red Bull Salzburg.

"I wasn’t really thinking anything, I was just hoping it wasn’t serious," Richards said on Tuesday. "I didn’t want to have surgery. I’ve never had surgery and never been injured."

An MRI will determine the extent of the damage to Richards’ ligament.

Richards sat in the stands at Red Bull Salzburg stadium while the Red Bulls went through training on Tuesday afternoon. He is expected to be out of action the remainder of the Austria trip and is questionable for the Charleston Challenge Cup in two weeks.

  1. Barce/Real and the USA / Argie game . . . both games I NEED to attend when they are here!

I hope Dane is alright. I had a slight MCL tear a few months ago playing hockey, and it took a good month to get back to where I wanted to be.

Dane is young and fit – he will recover and contribute this season.

  2. I still can’t get over the fact that this “scrimmage” got so nasty.

I hope Dane has a quick recovery and doesn’t miss any of the regular season.
