This weekend’s soccer on TV

Good afternoon folks.

Apologies for not posting this sooner but things got a bit swamped in SBI land. Not to worry, your schedule of soccer games this weekend is right here, waiting for you.

The match of the weekend pits AC Milan against AS Roma. Milan is out of the Champions League and in real danger of not qualifying for next year’s Champions League. You can basically call this match a must-win. Milan is a point behind Fiorentina with 11 matches to go. Roma sits six points behind Inter so there are some faint Scudetto hopes there, but being the home team for this tilt is reason enough for Roma to want to bury the old squad from Milan.

Then there is the USA-Honduras Olympic Qualifying match on Saturday night. We’re still waiting for the real U.S. team to show up and now the Americans must beat the unbeaten Hondurans to win its Olympic Qualifying group.

What are the best matches of the weekend? Here’s the Top Five:

  • AC Milan at AS Roma
  • USA vs. Honduras (Olympic Qualifying)
  • Sevilla at Valencia
  • Everton at Fulham
  • Tottenham at Manchester City

  1. I consider Friday afternoon to be the weekend, so ‘Veen beating Groningen to move into 3rd counts. Didn’t get to see the match, but a good result for MB, nonetheless.

  3. Napoli-Juventus is a must see match, Ives. It’s as bitter a rivalry as any you’ll find Europe (save perhaps for Celtic-Rangers). Juve will be pretty ticked as they lost in the andata at San Paolo on the heels of two dubious penalty kick decisions which went against Juventus.

And based on the dire football we’ve seen from the US U-23’s, can we really say the Saturday match between US and Honduras is “must see?” Man, that has been some of the most dire football I’ve seen this year. Even worse than the Darby/Wigan match.
