English Premier League Judgment Day: Your Running Commentary

Epl_logo

Good morning all. Today is the day the English Premier League will crown a champion, determine its European qualifiers and find out which three teams will be dropping down to the Coca Cola Championship.

There is so much on the line it’s tough to imagine all these meaningful games taking place at the exact same time. Here are the top games, with their meanings:

  • Manchester United at Wigan– Win and Man U repeats as EPL champions.
  • Bolton at Chelsea– If the Blues have a better result than Man U, Chelsea wins the title.
  • Newcastle at Everton– Win or tie and Everton clinches a UEFA Cup berth.
  • Aston Villa at West Ham– A Villa win and Everton loss gives Aston Villa a UEFA Cup berth.
  • Fulham at Portsmouth– win and the Cottagers survive for another season in the EPL.
  • Reading at Derby– A win and a Fulham tie or loss puts Reading into safety.
  • Blackburn at Birmingham– If Birmingham wins and both Fulham and Reading fail to win, they will survive.

Did you get all that?

The two matches airing live are Chelsea-Bolton and Manchester United-Wigan, though Fulham-Portsmouth will be available on pay per view. If you plan on watching any of the above matches, and will be online, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and play by play on the matches in the comments section below.

Enjoy the most exciting day of the EPL season.

  1. Check out Fulham’s record with McBride and without. He is clearly not the only factor, but if MVP means anything, he is it for Fulham.

  2. With the Red Card to Dunn, could Fulham sneak in for that Fair Play spot?

And to all, “The Great Escape” still belongs to West Ham, their hole to climb out of was always bigger. But we’ll let you borrow it for now 😉

  3. “Glory, glory Man United. The Reds go marching in on, on,on”

Manchester United are champions of England!

    FulhAmerica does the GREAT ESCAPE!!

Chel$ki are demoralized at the Bridge!!

BRING ON THE CHAMPION’S LEAGUE FINAL! FERGIE TO DO THE DOUBLE!!

Yes! My DC United are a mess right now, but I am riding the sky right now. I feel for Convey and Marcus, but we stood more to lose if Fulham went down.

Convey will find another club (hopefully where he’s playing first team ball) and Marcus is quality enough to land somewhere and either start or push for the starting spot. I feel for the Royals though – one superb season up and now they’re down. Here’s hoping they bounce back.

  5. There was Thaksin Shinawatra’s second mistake. His first was axing Ericsson in the first place. His second was letting a lame duck coach coach the team’s final game of the season with a UEFA Cup place on the line. Shinawatra is a moron.

  8. Fair play award does not get a Euro spot.. It is the league cup winner, the FA Cup winner and the 5th place team.

  9. It’s hard to say what’s the case right now, but it is entirely possible that FULHAM might gain entrance to the UEFA tournament qualifying rounds through the fair play award.

    No joke.

I’m not sure, but it appears fulham was only behind Man C of teams who ranked high and didn’t qualify for a euro slot. But who knows, the formula changes week to week.

    But WHAT A DAY!

  10. Did anyone see the interview at the end with the shirt-less Bullard and Murphy? My wife asked why they were interviewing the grounds crew. I thought they both looked like they were out of a scene from a POW film.

    Anyway, go Fulham.

  11. sublicon,

I’m with you 100%, its hilarious to read through all of the comments and see the ironically named Aristotle slate Fulham the entire game and then have the gall to celebrate as though he was with the team from the beginning. It reminds me of the Randy Quaid character in Major League 2.

  12. Not to pour gasoline on the euphoria, but with the red card and other misbehavior by Man City, it’s not out of the question for Fulham to pass Citeh and claim the Fair Play spot in the UEFA Cup.

The Sky 4, Everton and Spurs are already in Europe, so the Fair Play spot goes to the team next highest in the standings. It’d be quite the cherry on top of an already memorable day….

  13. aristotle: you never cease to prove time and time again what a sad sad little hater you are. i pity you.

also, if you knew anything about this club or premiership football in general, you’d know your little piece of trivia is false.

i hope your couch has been cozy this year.

I called Fulham’s survival from the beginning…I’ll assume that I am not included in the naysayers you speak of.

  16. How many cleansheets have the American keepers had this season? I know Reina won the Golden Gloves, but how close were Howard and Friedel. Weren’t they no2 and 3 last season?

  17. So with that only 4 Americans are regulated, and 8 remain. Im sure Feilhaber will do well in the Championship and Lewis should play another season or 2 before he retires. Poor Convey and Hahneman though. Hahneman is contracted til 2009 whereas Convey will either stay or leave for another PL team. And Bradley and Altidore most likely will be in the Premier League next season. And Fulham should be packin the punch. I hope EJ can become a SuperSub.

  18. I wonder if Fulham will be able to win on the last day next year to stay up?

    Trivia:

What team holds the record for consecutive years winning the last game of the season to avoid relegation? I’m guessing it’s Fulham.

  19. Hooray. Fernando Torres scored 24 goals this season, not only the 2nd highest for the season but also the new record for a foreigner in their debut season in the Premier League. Damn I see a League trophy for Liverpool next season. Gerrard got 11 league goals. A season record for him.

  20. Yes, yes yes, yess Fulham. The Americans did it. Im hoping for great things next season. Hopefully Keller and McBride sticks around. I read Bocanegra is off to Holland or Germany. EJ will be excited as hell. Fulham did it
