The third and final round of group games begins today with Group A finishing play as Turkey and the Czech Republic square off in what amounts to a play-in game for the Euro 2008 quarterfinals.

The task is simple for the Turks and Czechs: win and they join Portugal in the next round. That should make for a dramatic and memorable match today on ESPN2 at 3pm.

  1. The day the United States can play a game of football with the passion, skill and determination that Turkey exhibited today; even the NASCAR hicks will be watching. In the words of Alice Cooper: “we still have a long way to go.”

  2. I can’t believe it. I watched the match, but was trying to leave to go to the museum. I left in the 85th minute! I would have stayed to finish it but I wanted to get back in time for the US WCQ. Fortunately I had recorded it but, still… I would have loved to see it live rather than read about it and then watch the recording.

  4. Yeah, I’ve been packing all day, so was watching and boxing and was out of the room for most of the 2d half. I saw that the Turks had closed to 2-1, but the next time I walked in it was 3-2.

Thank goodness for DVRs as I was able to rewind and watch. Freakin’ awesome. 🙂

  5. Smart move by the Turkish keeper (Demirel) to shove Koller in stoppage time to pick up a straight Red and he will now miss the Quarter-Final.

    Crazy

  6. And now the Turkish keeper gets a red card for shoving Kollerin the chest. Koller has obviously been studying drama, and takes a spectacular dive and starts writing on the ground like he just got stuck in the eye with a red-hot needle.

  7. Amazing!!!!!!!!

Not enough exclamations. Amazing comeback by Turkey, stunning mistake by Cech, and devastating collapse by the Czech team.

  8. True and it is the 1st time for this rule to possibly be applied. Why the change, I’m not sure. However, it is better than the old coin flip that used to be the last tie breaker.

  9. I heard that if Turkey v. Czech game ends in a tie it goes straight to PKs. Is this the 1st year they are doing this, if so why the change? Thanks in advance…
