New York Red Bulls at D.C. United: Running Commentary

Red_bulls_logoDc_united_logo_2

The task will be a tough one for the Red Bulls. They have to travel to D.C. United, where they never win, and find a way to win without the departed Jozy Altidore and the injured Juan Pablo Angel and Claudio Reyna. D.C. will be missing players as well, but will be heavily favored to continue its recent hot streak.

Can Juan Carlos Osorio find a way to steal a point or three at RFK Stadium tonight? Will Luciano Emilio keep up his recent scoring streak? We will soon find out.

If you will be watching tonight’s match, and will be online, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the soccer.

  1. As a Metro fan from day one, it’s just business as usual. We win a third, we lose a third, we tie a third, we squeeze into the playoffs & get swept out. Tradition, baby.

JCO ain’t to blame, We’ve got two cripples as DPs & a history of losing. It’s a lot to overcome.

  2. Here’s what needs to be done to fix the RBNY franchise:

    1. Finish building Red Bull Park and the training grounds. As Shep Messing noted during the broadcast, the horrible field turf at GS is the prime culprit for the massive amount of injuries our players have suffered over the years. Only with a decent surface will we be able to keep our players healthy.

    2. Better foreign signings. It’s been hard to get decent foreign signings because we don’t have the scouting network that DC has — Primarily because we’ve switched coaches and GMs nearly every year. (JCO seems to be attempting to solve this problem with a pipeline of inexpensive Colombian and Venezuelan players through his contacts in South America.) Another problem is that foreign players don’t want to play on the rotten field turf and risk getting injured. We need Red Bull Park built soon so we’ll have a grass surface foreign signings will be more likely to want to play on.

    3. Better front office support for ESC, RBN and Kearny Army. We need the same fan rights as DC’s supporters to have giant flags, smoke bombs, flares, confetti and streamers. We need to have the right to create the kind of carnival atmosphere that makes DC, LA, TFC, RSL, etc. matches so much more enjoyable for the average fan. This can only happen once Red Bull Park is finished because the NJSEA bans any kind of fun in the stands because NJSEA has been on an unsuccessful mission for years to kill the MetroStars/Red Bulls.

At this point in the season, things look pretty bleak. But, JCO says he has signings lined up for the July transfer window, Red Bull Park is being constructed as we speak and the Front Office has promised supporters clubs that we’ll be given the right to generate atmosphere at the new stadium.

So, we’ll all just have to be stoic, suck up the next few “scrimmages” and wait this thing out while providing the best support we can for the guys on the field.

    Things will get better.
