  1. thanks greg, i hope he signs there cuz he can cross a ball as well as beckham and having them on opposite flanks for LA would not be fun for all the other teams.

  2. Hey Ives, I think you should try and talk to some people in the ESPN studios and then have them talk to the MLS about having a celebrity all star game right before the MLS one. I think that would be cool if they did it for charity and then the other one would be a skills competition.

  3. Yeah, Dave. If you’re not kidding, I should tell you there was a full post from Ives last week and about 1000 comments. 🙂

  4. Anyone catch that Freddy Adu is headed to Monaco on a season long loan deal? You think this will actually mean more playing time

  5. Enjoy some time Ives! I hope the Red Bulls beat San Jose today. The team really needs three points. I’m interested to see how Jorge Rojas plays. He appears to be a “find.”

  6. Wow, nice recommendation on the site Greg. That’s certainly useful.

Now, if I only read German. 🙂 Seriously though, the tables of salaries and contract stuff is awesome.

  7. Joe, try transfermarkt.de, it’s in German, but you can always just use the search function.

Chris, Solano is set to meet with the champions of Cyprus (a name I won’t even attempt from memory lol) on Monday. I suppose he will make a decision after that.

  8. from the dept of “brilliant transfers” – blackburn finally locked the swapping of friedel for robinson. i’m not going to even say anything more about that.

  9. Convey has been a regular fixture in Reading’s preseason. He started and played 90 minutes in their friendly with FC Trollhatten (4-1 win). He scored in their friendly with Didcot Town (9-0 win)

  10. Either that or they could reciprocate and bring an MLS side over and have them get DESTROYED by the EPL all-stars. (This is not meant as provocation for all of you MLS apologists. Its just a joke.)

  11. That’s interesting, DL. Thanks for the heads-up.

I Would be interesting concept for England. Interesting format might be English nationals vs. the world. Kind of like the NHL did here with North America vs. the world.

  12. Does anyone know of a site that would have the contracts of players in the world (To see who would be out of contract next summer or things like that?)

  13. Borgetti? That would be a big mistake to give him DP money. The guy wouldn’t provide much for anybody. He needs quality service to be at his best. The only place I can see him thriving is in LA and that isn’t a possibility right now. I really don’t see any DP’s who are equal to Beckham, Blanco, and Angel for what they’ve done for the league.

  14. The next DP I see coming to MLS would probably be a Englishman coming to either NE or TFC. If not – a BocaJ or RiverP coming to Houston or FCDallas. And maybe Borgetti to Houston.

  15. Thanks so much for the updates on Convey Beckster.

I have high expectations for all three.

And think that a lot of the USMNT future – at least in the short term – relies on the progress of Gibbs & Simek. I know that might sound strange. But if Dolo gets injured (or his form continues to slip), then we are dead if Simek isn’t healthy — besides, he is a competent, reliable, well-composed professional. I know there has been talk of him going to Villa, but I would love to see him move up with Wednesday (though with their form last year that seems highly unlikely).

I think Onyewu has come along way, and Boca is fine for now. But neither have the speed or class that Gibbs had when he was healthy. They simply don’t.

And Convey, when he’s on form, is very, very dangerous and Beaz will always be injured or coming off an injury, let’s face it.

  16. Davids isn’t DP worthy in my opinion he’s been on the slide for a couple years. I could see somebody making an offer but he doesn’t seem like the kind of player to fill the seats. The average MLS fan probably doesn’t know who he is.

  17. Since today seems like a slow day, What DP do you see coming next?

I read an article that DAVIS once again is teamless. Do you think he’s a good pickup for anyone?

    Cheers

Have a good weekend. I’ll be in Amish country.

  19. No MLS on TV and we are still a couple weeks out from the olympics and the start of the European season….I need my fix. Just one more hit man.

  20. Bobby Convey has been doing quite well in the preseason for Reading. He seems to have been starting at left wing ahead of Stephen Hunt. This is probably due to a combination of Hunt coming into training late, possibly being transferred out and Convey playing well. He has had assists and goals. If Convey continues, it may be reason for some optimism relative to his knee and possibly getting back on the MNT. Ives, do you have thoughts on this?

  21. Frankie is coming back from an injury. He is a highly valued member of a Cola team aiming to go up. On top of that, he has had plenty of Prem interest.

I wouldn’t count Cory or Bobby out either. Both have had knee troubles for a long time, but should be back to fit for the new season. I’m sure Cory will find a team, he’s a class player and a classier dude.

  22. Ives, Here’s a potential post:

The salary comparison between the MLS All-Stars and West Ham (starting 11 or whole 18 man roster).

MLS salaries are out on the web. I know you can get West Ham’s salary numbers from Championship Manager 08 or FM 08.

Great work Ives! I visit the site often.

  23. Hmm…..whatever did happen to those three. they used to be common choices for Bob Bradley and Bruce Arena. Convey’s team got relegated. Simek’s team is kinda already relegated. Gibbs doesnt even have a contract with anyone. i dont know if any of the above we be making a surprise come back to the USMNT. but there’s plenty of team before the 2010 WC. so who knows….
