Happy 4th of July from SBI

Good morning folks. It’s the 4th of July, which means hitting the beach or pool, firing up the grill and enjoying some time off and relaxing (for some of us).

For those of you who still need a soccer fix, don’t worry. I’ll look to check in with a few posts today before I take off for Florida (yes, it’s vacation time for me).

If there are any soccer stories from today or last night that you’d like to discuss, share them in the comments section below. Otherwise, enjoy the holiday and be sure to check SBI throughout the holiday weekend for more news and analysis from the soccer world.

  1. If the signers of the Declaration of Independence played the beautiful game, who would be your starting 11 and what positions would they play? 🙂

    Enjoy your vacation!

  2. Since there are only two reporters doing a decent job of covering soccer in the newsroom, I vote we invoke an old newsroom rule and say two people on the same beat can’t take vacation at the same time — so next year, you’ll have to work it out with Goff who takes July.

I know Tallahassee weather sucks this time of year. I went to FSU for a couple years so I know. Luckily I live in Miami now and while the weather isn’t perfect, it sure is nicer than most places. The key is the ocean breeze which you don’t get much of in Tallahassee.

  4. This is the second time I’ve watched Houston play live.

Are they always a chippy and dirty team? Certainly in the two games I watched I was amazed that De Rosario, Ching and a lot of the other Houston players resorted to cheap dirty play. I no longer have respect for them. I haven’t seen any other team lower themselves to that classless type of play.

  5. OK here’s one: I heard on Fox Soccer Report this morning that Houston was going to sign Nate Jaqua, but with the intention of sending him to Seattle next season.

  7. Ives: I know it’s not Q & A time (and I know that when it is Q & A time, I always ask you a dumbass question), but here’s is something I am wondering. If ESPN soccernet, where you have a column, is willing to let Jay DeMerit write about soccer, why isn’t Bob Bradley willing to call you into camp and give you a start in central defense? Seems only fair.

  9. As someone suffering through the torrid Florida summer, with the humidity so thick that you need gills to breathe, I must ask a question. Why on earh would you want to come her in July?

  10. back at you, Ives. Happy 4th and enjoy the vacation.

So, what can we talk about? Euro league transfer rumors are getting old already. Unless…Who is the most desirable MF and most desirable striker available this summer? Money not an issue but don’t use Cristiano Ronaldo since that is a straight, ManU or Real Madrid question. Pretend you’re a big club with money and can go after a MF and/or Striker that has been among the ‘for sale’ bunch.

    I’ll say Drogba and Ronaldhino.
