  1. yup it was a pk, how can I argue that. You are right, I am an a**hole when confronted on my memory of the foul. Please allow me to apologize for being very wrong about the entire incident.

    Cheers!

  2. Zoran – folks were just pointing out that the foul that occured was CLEARLY IN THE BOX. There shouldn’t even be a question. Yes the officiating is bad and both players should have been booked. But, as is usually the case, the ref saw only the retaliation and that CLEARLY HAPPENED IN THE BOX. That is the only point of contention this board has with you. That and you’ve become an a**hole when confronted on you memory of the fouls position.

  3. You want my soccer resume, no problem bud. I also played in your great D1 on a full ride and made all conferece all region etc., big deal? I won the Canadian club championship and played on the last North American team to reach the semi’s in the Dallas Cup, beating Dynamo Kiev along the way. As for Cooper scoring that is great he anf Toja were my favourite players to watch in the MLS, so no goggles son. DC United when on their game are my favourite team to watch, so no goggles on again. Point is the the officials in these games are far below the level of this league, but hey everybody knows that so not sure why I was so upset. I should expect crappy officiating, I mean that is the least I can get for buying season tickets. I can handle losing and I can also admit that TFC is playing very poorly, but I would like the games to be decided by the players.

  4. Correction to your post zoran: I am a season ticket holder to D.C. United who has played and coached at the collegiate level. If you’d like, I can round up some 15 year olds if you’d prefer to discuss topics with individuals closer to your level. You should stay in the stadium to witness the full spectacle of your team getting beaten next time. It got good towards the end; I particularly liked Sutton’s attempt at a save on Kenny Cooper’s shot.

  5. TFC goggles, ya that is me. I guess I am pretty silly, because I am sitting here discussing footie with (probably) a bunch of 15 year olds (that probably) haven’t attend a match in person or even played the game period.

  6. The officiating must have been pretty bad to insult your intelligence Zoran, because you haven’t displayed much. Take off your TFC goggles, stop blaming the officials, recognize that one of your players is a thug who punches opposing players on occasion, and understand that it was your team’s poor, boring play that secured their loss.

  7. More to the point, where is the outrage for player violence on the field? If it were blanco out there swinging bows there would be calls for the chair. As I recall Blanco allegedly left a scratch on Clyde Simms’ face. Amando bloodied someones’ face. Where’s the outrage people? All I hear is complaints about bad refs, no calls for arrests or fines and five plus game suspensions. I know Blanco is well hated accross the league, I just wich folks would keep a level head about Blanco incidents and not simply hate.

  8. I doesn’t get fixed because the MLS is still a penny pinching league and most refs continue to work other jobs, instead of honing their skills on the field. Until this league feels secure that it can make money, nothing will change. The salary cap will continue to inch up while the league expands and the refs will get paid crap to call games like crap.

It doesn’t get fixed because MLS doesn’t have problems. With anything. MLS is perfect.

Also, ask Jesse Marsch how he feels about the refs. Or Jason Kreis.

  10. “Besides, by my count the referee made fewer mistakes than Chad Barrett and he lasted the whole game.”

baconboy better get used to it. Its his forte. Today was not an anomaly, its what you can expect along with an occassional goal for every 10 shanks.

Most Chicago fans cried tears of joy.

  11. Whatever you want to say about the referee, I think in the end that Dallas was the better team and deserved to win. TFC had very little to offer offensively, except for a few set plays, and Dallas was, for my money, more attack-minded overall, even with a patchwork defense. If the TFC coach wants to be mad at the referee, that’s fine with me, but if I were him I’d be more worried about the lack of discipline that cost them the game. Anyone who has played the game at even the most basic level has it drilled into their heads that the person who retaliates is almost always the one who gets the card (the referee, by the way, was well placed to spot the foul — and a bloody nose isn’t really an easy thing to achieve without pretty severe contact, at least from my experience with two broken noses). And if you are sitting on a yellow and use foul and abusive language at the referee, even if he’s a complete fool (heck, especially if he’s a complete fool) then you’ve let your team down.

Besides, by my count the referee made fewer mistakes than Chad Barrett and he lasted the whole game.

I’d say a lack of offensive imagination and a lack of discipline is what cost TFC the game today.

  12. Okay, to me at least, it seems kind of simple. If everyone is right that this occurs everywhere in MLS (I can’t exactly claim to have watched any non-TFC games…I don’t even catch 1/2 of TFC’s games, afterall), why doesn’t it get fixed? One would assume that all the managers would be ticked, that most of the players would be ticked, and that the owners would be screaming at the league officials over such a thing.

I don’t know why this isn’t fixed though. I mean, bad reffing is always going to happen, because they can’t catch everything…but from what I’ve seen, MLS is a pro level with amateur refs. Then again, CONCACAF isn’t exactly brimming with pro refs…They should start paying them as well as the players, and maybe import some from Europe. MLS can’t expect to attract fans with the current batch of blind/stupid refs.

  13. What Chad DIDNT score?

    He had cramps?

    SHOCKER!!

Yep Toronto fleeced Chicago. Chicago is forced to play the better Nyarko.

Im glad TFC “fleeced” Chicago for Barret and not Mapp,Rolfe, or Nyarko.

  14. I was at the game too and have never been so mad as I was today.

However, in hindsight the Guevara card was deserved I hate to say it. The first yellow on Velez was terrible I think – the only thing I can think is the ref must have thought velez threw a bit of a hip check or something, cause it kinda looked that way, though it was from the keeper using him as a springboard. the second yellow was velez’s fault, he should know better, but come on it was a bit harsh… esp in context — cooper threw one of defenders about 5 yards and the ref says play on, velez said something and got the yellow/red — it was the non-call on Cooper that sent me nuts. esp since the ref also gave brennan a yellow for dissent a couple mins before this.

i agree the officiating is shite in the mls, but TFC has had a number of bad calls go our way too. (though not as many that have gone against, I can say in all honesty).

  15. Zoran, it’s funny that you should be talking about people making comments that offer no input into the game. Who said blood should mean a PK? But if there was a foul in the box?? Yes, I believe that warrants a penalty, you f’ing genius. Now I have no idea if Richetti did anything to Guevara as well, maybe it should have been cards for both of them. But Guevara definitely did something to Richetti. And put on your glasses before you say it wasn’t in the box

I just watched the Canadian broadcast highlights a few times, and two things are clear:

    1) Both players hit each other illegally.

    2) The altercation was clearly in the box. By about a foot and a half. Your Canadian announcers even said so, without a shadow of a doubt. You’d have to be partially blind to think otherwise.

    @ Kevin Smith

I agree that both players hit each other and it’s nice to see Guevara own up to his actions. However, the person who retaliates, in almost any sport, is the one that gets caught. I’m not saying that is right, that is just who the ref normally sees.

Velez’s first card was a little soft. We’ve all seen players in this league do worse things and get away with it and we’ve all seen softer ones called. That said, a second yellow card is dumb on the player’s fault, especially for dissent. He already has a card, deserved or not, and he needs to watch himself.

Like I said above, the reffing is bad in this league in pretty much every game. However, TFC didn’t screwed any worse than any other team in the league. It’s Russian roulette.

  17. Richetti’s nose was bloody. However, Amado said (through a translator) that he was elbowed first, and questioned why Richetti didn’t get a red. He didn’t disagree with his card, he didn’t like the absence of one for Richetti.

Having said that, it was impossible to tell what happened on the replay. Richetti went down, but what does that mean? Most players these days go down easy. Bloody nose, big deal, maybe he was picking it too much. They’re not exactly hard to cause.

Meanwhile, f*** yes was the reffing bad. Velez got a card for standing in the box while the opposing goalie jumped into him. He has every right to be there, and he didn’t even jump. He stood there, got hit, and then was given a bullsh!t card.

Sometimes I wish I played soccer at those levels, but on the other hand, I’d probably get thrown out every 3 games for punching the refs.

  18. I guess we should give pk’s every time there is blood on the field, since that play was not even in the box? You guys are quite funny, you really don’t have any true input in the game, however you feel obliged to make your stupid as* comments about it.

What point are you trying to make??? I guess you are used to taking it up ___, so you have nothing to complain about. You are talking about bush league and you attack TFC because they are not a good team?? Every team in this league is fantastic compared to the officiating, it is like they hired a bunch of drunk dudes from the stands! I left the stadium today, because I didn’t appreciate my intelligence being insulted and now I read your comments and realize that there are people on this forum that are right up there with the officials in this league, Idiot!

  21. The refs are dubious in most games, but Toronto is generally been a thuggish, long-ball team that is dull as can be to watch…They’ve been a bit better this year, but still, it’s painful to see them on TV. It seems fitting that Carver, his assistants, and TFC players are going ape on the field as the wheels come off in their 2-0 defeat.

The bush league comment was true earlier, but it’s play like this from TFC that makes MLS look more bush league than the refs…

  23. TFC fans: You’ve been in the league a year and a half and are still surprised by bad refereeing? Trust me, every team falls victim to it.

I didn’t watch the game, but given Guevara’s reputation, if he got a red, he probably deserved it. I’m sure there will be a camera angle that shows the incident on the highlights.

As far as Velez, players know they need to shut their mouths and play safe once they have one yellow. Second yellows are the player’s fault 99% of the time.

  24. I was at the game and have never seen such bad officiating like that. Both players had their elbows up so I can’t understand why Guevarra got the red card. I also can’t believe our physio guy got a red card! As a season ticket holder, I must admit that the officiating in the MLS is bush league at best.

  25. The camera on the feed I was watching missed the Guevara/Ricchetti incident, but given Guevara’s history, I’ll give the ref the benefit of the doubt there. And Velez knew he already had a yellow (however undeserved), so was stupid for yelling at the ref and getting the second. No, this wasn’t bad luck for TFC. It was a loss based on the stupidity of two of its players.

  26. TFC got the full Chad Barrett experience today. A brutal shot missing 10 yards wide on a decent look in the 68th minute and being subbed out with cramps in the 69th minute. All capped with being booed off the field.

TFC…get used to days like this.

  27. Both ejections were absolute BS. A punch? Are you kidding me!! If anyone considers that a punch, please shoot me an email, cuz I’d love to get in a fist fight with you if that’s how you throw punches. Valez first yellow was far from a foul let alone a punishable offense. Carver and his boys have gained an unwarranted reputation with MLS referees and with bogus calls like that, not only does it hurt Toronto, it makes the MLS look extremely bush league and unprofessional.
