Guardiola: No decision yet on Messi

Barcelona head coach Josep Guardiola fielded a flood of questions in three different languages about the same subject: Lionel Messi.

Guardiola made it clear in every language that he will wait until he speaks with Messi before a decision is made on whether Barcelona will recall Messi from the Olympics.

"I want to speak to (Messi), and listen to him, and then I will make my decision public," Guardiola said. "There is no decision. I must talk to him to make a decision."

Guardiola clarified that he was unable to to speak to Messi on Wednesday, pointing out that Messi was sleeping when the club attempted to reach him.

Messi and the Argentina national team takes on Ivory Coast in its opening Olympic match on Thursday. Guardiola said he would attempt to speak to Messi on Thursday so he and the club could come to a decision on whether Messi stays in China with the Olympic team or if he will rejoin Barcelona ahead of next week’s Champions League qualifier against Polish squad Wisla Krakow.

So what do I think? I think Messi will plead with Guardiola to stay at the Olympics and Guardiola will let him stay. As well as Wisla Krakow played in smashing Beitar Jerusalem, 5-0, on Wednesday, I highly doubt Barcelona would yank Messi at this point in time. Besides, with the Barcelona midfield clicking, Samuel Eto’o looking like he’s staying with the team, Barca won’t exactly struggle to advance in the Champions League.

  1. Eto’o was ridiculous last night for Barca. With both him and Henry in great form right now, Barca will not want for goals.

I predict Messi stays, too. So much for the CIS decision.
