Red_bulls_logo2008_017

Good evening everybody. The New York Red bulls take on D.C. United in a key Eastern Conference clash that both teams need to keep pace with the pack in the East.

The Red Bulls are sitting in last place in the East and need a win to avoid falling behind the entire conference. D.C. United will be looking to pull three points ahead of KC and Toronto.

I will be providing a running commentary on the match. If you will be following the match, please feel free to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Enjoy the match:

————————-

FINAL– That’s all for now. Check back in tonight for more post-game coverage. For now, feel free to share your thoughts on today’s match in the comments section below.

————————-

FINAL– Just when it looked like the season might slip away today, the Red Bulls deliver their best performance of the season.

————————-

FINAL– Red Bulls 4, D.C. United 1. The Red Bulls snap their recent five-match winless streak and move into a four-way tie for fourth in the East.

————————-

92nd minute– Rojas looks to have shaken off the injury.

————————-

91st minute– For those of you wondering, this will be the biggest win in club history against D.C. United.

————————-

90th minute– Rojas is down after getting kicked in the back of the leg by Brian Namoff. Coold be an Achilles injury.

————————-

88th minute- GOAL RED BULLS!! Sinisa Ubiparipovic from Rojas to finish D.C. off.

————————-

85th minute- Sinisa Ubiparipovic in for Magee, who played a strong game today.

————————-

83rd minute– Red Bulls in control right now and D.C. doesn’t look like they have the players to make up this two-goal difference.

————————-

79th minute– Referee Shane Moody is giving cards away like he gets paid by the card.

————————-

77th minute– Yellow card for Rojas.

————————-

73rd minute– Red Bulls switch to a 4-4-2 now.

————————-

71st minute– There is Magee hustling again. He’s had his best game in a very long time and has made a good case for holding on to a starting job.

Leitch is coming in for Sassano.

————————-

67th minute– D.C. just doesn’t have any creativity without Moreno and without Marcelo Gallardo, who is still recovering from surgery.

————————-

63rd minute– Martinez comes close.

————————-

62nd minute– Magee has looked much better this half. He has certainly rewarded Osorio’s faith in him.

————————-

60th minute– Mendes is in for Pietravallo. Mendes is a little better defensive option (I wiould argue he’s a better overall option based on what I’ve seen from Pietravallo). To be fair, Pietravallo played well this half.

————————-

52nd minute– Burch with the shocking back-pass that led to that mess.

————————-

51st minute– Wells comes out too slow for a ball in the area. Angel races on and chips it over Wells and off the right post for his second goal of the game. Red Bulls 3, D.C. United 1.

————————-

50th minute– GOAL RED BULLS. And it’s Angel AGAIN!!

————————-

47th minute– Quaranta adds a speed element to D.C.’s attack that could cause problems for the Red Bulls.

————————-

HALFTIME– Quaranta on for Moreno.

————————-

HALFTIME– Red Bulls 2, D.C. United 1. Red Bulls did well to withstand the surge after D.C.’s goal.

————————-

45th minute- GOAL MAGEE!!. Van Den Bergh sends a dangerous cross in that D.C. can’t deal with. Burch heads to an open Magee, who finishes from about five yards out.

————————-

44th minute– Emilio comes very close. He’s looking good today.

————————-

43rd minute– Red Bulls have settled down but still can’t string good passes together. You also get the feeling that Emilio is going to do something today.

————————-

36th minute– Zach Wells with a clutch deflection on Angel, who was racing in off a Rojas pass. Clutch play by Wells because Angel scores if he doesn’t make it.

————————-

34th minute– Sassano hasn’t loked bad on the right wing today.

————————-

31st minute– Angel does well to track back defensively. You can tell he really wants this game. Whether his teammates are good enough to deliver the win is another story.

————————-

29th minute– Dave Van Den Bergh drew the foul that led to Angel’s goal.

Angel nearly catches Wells off his line with an attempted chip.

————————-

27th minute- GOAL RED BULLS. Juan Pablo Angel with the free kick. What a beautiful goal.

————————-

25th minute– D.C. definitely feeling it right now. Can the Red Bulls withstand this?

————————-

24th minute– Red Bulls with no offense so far.

————————-

22nd minute– Pietravallo with another turnover.

————————-

20th minute– D.C. with a corner courtesy of a Pietravallo turnover. I have yet to be impressed by the new Argentine midfielder.

————————-

17th minute– And just like that D.C. United is in the lead. Red Bulls defense looked terrible there.

————————-

16th minute- GOAL D.C. United. And it’s Jaime Moreno with the finish.

————————-

14th minute– Yellow on Juan Pietravallo for a foul on Moreno. Referee is a little cards.

————————-

13th minute– Gabriel Cichero with a yellow for a foul on Emilio, who apparently needed a few seconds to feel the pain on that foul.

————————-

11th minute– Not the prettiest game so far. On the bright side, it has stopped raining.

————————-

10th minute– For those of you wondering, John Wolyniec is out with a knee injury. With Chris Megaloudis left off the roster, the Red Bulls have no natural forwards on the bench. Danleigh Borman is the most likely player to come in as a forward.

————————-

7th minute– Red Bulls with the better of the play early but D.C. looks content to sit back early on.

————————-

6th minute- Magee races onto a Sassano pass but can’t redirect it.

————————-

1st minute– And we’re off. Joe Vide gets the start to say. Just a bit weird to see him in a D.C. uniform.

————————-

PRE-GAME– D.C. playing with two defensive midfielders in a 4-4-2, not used to seeing that. Expect to see Moreno dropping back a bit.

————————-

PRE-GAME– Yes, I forgot to list Mike Magee in the starting lineup. We’ll see if he shows up today.

————————-

PRE-GAME– Here is the D.C. United lineup:

————Emilio——Moreno———–

Guerrero——————————Fred

————–Simms—Vide—————–

Burch—-Carroll—-McTavish—-Namoff

—————–Wells———————-

————————-

PRE-GAME– Here is the Red Bulls starting lineup:

——————Angel————Magee————-

Van Den Bergh———-Rojas————-Stammler

————-Pietravallo——–Sassano ————–

Goldthwaite————Cichero—————Parke

————————–Conway———————

BENCH– Patterson-Sewell, Diego Jimenez, Chris Leitch, Carlos Mendes, Danleigh Borman, Sinisa Ubiparipovic, Andrew Boyens

Cichero gets the start and now we’ll see the back-line Osorio has wanted to use for a while now (though I think Jimenez would be Osorio’s preferred left back).

  1. What a match! Wow, I can’t believe what I saw. I was sitting near the section directly beneath Barra Brava and Screaming Eagles. They were stunned which made it all the better as they were singing loudly at the beginning of the match and pretty much didn’t sing anything by the time it was 3-1

  2. K is a “C”!!!

The fans you brought down were ultra lame, maybe sung like 5 times with any passion or volume the entire game. Your supporters are daytrippers and spoiled..they have no idea how to support a team that is losing.

It was funny and sad all at once to read DC fans talking about wanting to come in an own Giants Stadium…man they would have a hard time owning the practice bubble against the kiddie teams.

Pathetic away fan performance by Barra Brava and Sreaming Eagles. You guys really need to take lessons from ESC @ RFK on how to suck up a big loss and fight through it and support loudly and with passion.

  3. That’s what’s great about this game. We can suck for years but a few moves and it’s a different scenario. Hopefully this turns things around for once.

Yea, sure, the wack-offs down in dirty DC could grab their crotches and dwell on their trophies in the past but we are the future.

Considering they need to depend on an old, creaking Bolivian for offense (and boasting about it too), I think they could be in for a nice butthumping end to the season.

  4. I had a very busy Sunday and missed most of the game. To my shocking surprise, NY had the lead! The one time I don’t watch against DC and RBNY crushes them!! Unbelievable!

  5. One of the best games of the Red Bulls. Love the additions of Rojas and Cichero. Everyone played a decent game!

Magee’s first goal in the run of play since ….?

  6. Um… still got a long way to go to make up for the Karma there Jersey! Lets talk after you win 4 MLS cups… or heck a Supporters Shield… no? Superliga? Nope. Hmm… I’ve got it… the US Open cup? No not that either! Dang… CCC? No…

Also, dives? Dives? KPUG! Time for the smelling salts…Your thugs kept punking Moreno, hacking Emilio, and smashing into Fred. Looks like we’ve got a new Olsen in Joe Vide to at least lay on the lumber when that happens.

I’ll give you this though, JPA is the truth. Quite a player. Congratulations on the win, now how about winning something besides the fricking Atlantic cup [still up for grabs this year] for the good of the league oh “Superclub”

    cheers and Vamos United!

  7. Man, the FIRE fans would’ve outsung both supporter groups with just SEVEN PEOPLE THERE! They’re so loud and never stop singing no matter what the score is — but they’re always winning, so it doesn’t even matter; they’re the only ones you would be able to hear on the TV, and would not even need any help from the overhang echo or mics. Not only that, but the FIRE would’ve won that game even though they weren’t playing. Cause they’re the FIRE…and they beat Everton.

  8. Dear Kevin,

No wonder you hate it; you’re scum too.

By the way, you think Pink Cows and MetroTards are clever? Seriously? Here’s a tip: stop trying so hard. Don’t tax those meager mental muscles in vain.

    Love,

Joamiq, your friendly neighborhood Red Bull fan

BTW, the Fire fans really are hilarious. Do they think that stating a falsehood makes it true?

Back to the actual game, solid effort all around. Rojas is clearly a difference maker. It’s so nice to see a midfielder who can make the incisive passes that lead to scoring opportunities. It’s been a while since we’ve had that.

Also, a good effort from Cichero. I’m still not sold on Pietravallo, but a better performance from him today.

  9. Eugene, he got an instep drive right to his achilles. Real cheap, red card-worthy frustration play from DC. I bet that hurt like hell, but like many contact injuries, the pain subsides quick. Especially if your team is crushing their hated rival.

  10. What a game the best played by the Red Bull all year. Wow JPA what a nice couple of goals, great passing, hard running by a complete professional.I hope the organization talk to him and open the bank with all the rumors of him going to argentina. He has one more year left and by his hustle and creation of goals they would be lost without him. I wish JPA would be alittle more patient he seemed very happy today. the service was there by Rojas and they need a speedy forward to assist him and Richards back. Sassano is good on defense but has no creativity which they need desperately. I like Freeman but he did not play today . The game truly shows that you need creative players to win and I good center back. I think Circh. played great against Emilio

Go Red bull must win next week against toronto. Keep JPA Happy.

  11. I also have to say that Rojas deserves an Oscar for that rolling around on the ground performance. We should nickname him “Oscar” Rojas. My wife and I were both completely convinced he had either broken his ankle or had damage to his calf of achilles. Then he gets up and within 5 minutes he’s jogging on it again.

    =)

  12. That was an incredibly satisfying game to watch. The first 20 minutes were dicey, but the overall quality of the team has definitely improved with Osorio’s signings. I think once they’ve had more time to gel our performances in the back will really get much better.

We do still lack speed, but we have an opportunity to get that in Kandji. I was happy with today’s performance, finally this season is back on track again. I’m also hoping that Osorio retains his job for next year, because I think the team can build on this base and finally become a true franchise.

  13. It’s not often these days I come home from a Red Bulls match happy. Having said that:

DC Scum idiots sitting silent and shocked in the middle deck, enjoy the ride home. Despite the ref’s best efforts and your rampant and pathetic diving you mustered 1 goal and gave up 4 against one of the worst teams in the league. Chew on that for a while, scumbags.

That’s right cheaters, dive all you want, you lost 4-1.

Wow, that felt good. For once this season I’m happy.

  14. I went back and listened. I think the Fire idiot was either a wind-up artist, or he made an assumption that if he heard a song in Spanish, it must be the Barra. I did hear a little bit from them on TV, but the ESC was loud and clear.

  15. Player Ratings vs the DC Scum 8/9/08:

Conway 7 Not really at fault on the only goal and made a few good saves early on

Parke 8 He keeps growing as a player and really shut down the right side

Chichero 8 Great addition…has steadied a very unsteady back line

Goldy 7 He still makes me nervous but I figure Jimenez will take over soon so he has to work to keep his job

Sassano 7 Did a good job but wish he would pass forward more often

Stammy 7 Started out playing pretty sloppy but after Angel’s goal did a good job disrupting Simms and co.

Rojas 8 Is what Reyna should have been… Reclaimed the central midfield after the DC goal

    P-vallo 7 Our new pit bull..taking over for Dema… Don’t f*ck with this Argie!

VDB 8 Gave some great crosses and played good D when needed.

Magee 8 Finally showed he can play the game… I have pisse don this man for quite a while but after tonight’s game he has showed he can re-establish himself on the club.

Angel 9 MOTM…the man is back watch out MLS

    Subs

Mendes 7 Filled in nicely for P-vallo

Sinisa 8 Thanks for the 4th goal Sinisa… Karma is a bitch DC isn’t it?

Leitch 7 Did a good job filling in the D at the end of the game..

Game of the year for the Bulls!

  16. I don’t know about the tv broadcast. But I barely heard a peep from the screaming eagles. ESC were non stop all game, the loudest they’ve been all year.

Rojas is magic. I love that guy.

  17. stamler is playing as a holding midfielder in the middle. ives got the line up wrong. just swap sassano and stammler. but sassano was good on the wing. maybe his best game. stammler was his usual self.

  18. we should have done better there, we are playing without motivation to demolish these fools they way the do us when they get the chance

  19. What was that jackass saying about how the DC fans were drowning out the ESC? I read that and turned up the volume for the second half, and I’m hearing nothing but ESC.

  20. Someone needs to tell Cangelosi that the “area” is the box around the goal, not the whole end… He grates me sometimes.

  21. Why are players allowed to curse directly into the referee’s face and not be punished? Magee just said you piece of @#$% to the referee…its messed up
