Olympic Men’s Soccer: Matchday Two (Your Running Commentary)

Good morning folks. If you are up bright and early watching Olympic soccer then this is your place to discuss the action.

I will be doing live commentary on the NBC Olympics website for the Brazil-New Zealand game so whether you watch that game, or any of the others on the schedule, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

And for you U.S. national team fans, I will have a seperate running commentary post for the USA-Netherlands match so keep an eye out for that at about 7am, when I post the lineups for the match.

For now, enjoy the early-morning (or late-night) soccer action.

  1. Japan has played well but in the second half Nigeria put away two balls in the run of play with some pretty good passing. 2-0, the Super Eagles.

  2. Atmosphere here in Tianjin is terrific despite the stifling heat and humidity. The crowd is solidly pro-Nigeria (not Japanese fans, I guess), and the Nigerian fans are playing to their new friends by marching around with tambourines and horns.

  3. Joe, tell us how you really feel.

I have to agree though. Sometimes the game times for a lot of these events is really hard to find.

  4. Argentina hasn’t looked all that sharp. They’ve had chances, and could be up 2-0 or 3-0, but the last half hour was a bit sloppy.

Messi is Messi but he’s missed two chances so far. Aguero has not been involved much, neither has Riquelme.

  5. NBC needs to get their act together with their schedule on their Olympics website! They list this huge 5 hour block of programming, or in the case of the NBC Olympic Soccer Channel a 12 hour block, and it says what will be shown during that block. However, it does not state the order of the events or the individual broadcast start times during that block! Then, to top it off, you cannot stream games on the internet live if they are being broadcast live on TV!!! IT’S A BIG F**KIN MESS!!! NBC, just give me a detailed schedule for the day on the Olympic Soccer Channel…PLEASE!!!

  6. Australia packing it back, Argentina with 9 shots in the first half but no goals. Messi looks like a men among boys out there. Scary bunch, Argentina.
