Olympics: USA Men vs. Japan (Your Running Commentary)

Ussoccerlogo

Good morning everybody. It is bright and early and the U.S. men’s Olympic soccer team is set to begin it’s tournament with an opening match against Japan (4:55pm, MSNBC). The match is crucial to the American team’s chances of advancing out of a brutal group that includes the Netherlands and Nigeria.

If you want to follow the match, the best place to do so is at the NBC Olympics website, which has live streaming video as well as my live commentary during the match. As always, you can share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section here on SBI.

Enjoy the match.

  1. So do we now hope for a Dutch v Nigeria draw, or do we assume that the Dutch are going through no matter what and just hope for a Nigeria loss?

  2. Although I think it was a clear no-call, this is exactly why we should have brought more true defenders. It would be like playing Adu as a lone striker.

  3. Balboa is stupid…that’s not a penalty. Just because you prematurely declare it a “definite penalty,” doesn’t mean you have to defend it when the video clearly shows it was soft (at best)

  4. I love how this ref lets the shorter Japanese players climb up our backs when there’s a header, but he calls McBride and Altidore everytime they shield the ball.

  5. I’m sorry. Balboa’s commentary is disgraceful. Also, for those who have Universal HD, game is on with no commercials.

  6. The game is “brought to you by McDonald’s with limited commercial interruption” on MSNBC. They make note of it at the beginning and the end of the coverage.

  7. So are the commercials not done throughout the entire viewing audience? I have not seen a commercial yet on MSNBC here in Blacksburg.
