Real Salt Lake at Columbus Crew: Your Running Commentary

2008_016_2Real_salt_lake_logo

Real Salt Lake has made the trip to Ohio for tonight’s showdown with the surging Columbus Crew.

RSL was riding its own unbeaten streak before being downed by Houston, 4-3, at midweek. Real Salt Lake was missing several key defenders, but wasn’t about to get sympathy from a Dynamo team that overtook them for first place in the West with the victory.

The Crew will be looking to try and retake the hold on first place it had for half a week after beating FC Dallas last week. Columbus is unbeaten in its last four at Crew Stadium and will look to pounce on an RSL squad that has struggled on the road all season.

  1. Brant, I’m pretty sure that the HS football games were played the night before the match so it makes sense that some lines would still be visible. From what I’ve read, it sounds like the grounds keeping staff lets the grass grow out long for the HS games and mows it so the lines get mowed away. Due to the grass not being long enough they couldn’t do it last night. Anyways, a great result for the surging Crew!

  2. Blah!

RSL fan says 16 days off at this point is not the right way to schedule. Lame!

Good game Crew fans, I have a feeling you get the shield. Especially if GBS stays healthy.

  3. 62d minute – Noonan for Schelloto, who looks bummed that he’s coming out, even with a 3-0 lead and 35-year-old legs.

I’d expect to see Garey for Moreno at some point, with Alejandro having played 90+ vs Syria back in Venezeula this week (and scoring his first int’l goal, too).

  4. 56th minute

    O’Rourke

    (a) runs down the attacker

    (b) tackles him off the ball

    (c) clears the ball to the sideline instead of the end line

    (d) WITHOUT COMMITTING A FOUL!

    (proof that miracles do happen…)

  5. Crew defense taking an early smoke-break at the end of the half… Findley gets behind the defense and Crew has to scramble to clear the ensuing pinball.

  6. GOAL SCHELOTTO

PK called on Borchers. Not sure it actually was a PK, but it was close enough that the ref gave The Crew the home-team-benefit-o’-the-doubtâ„¢

    2-0 Crew in the mid-20s.

  7. Alright Crew. I understand you host the occasional football game or two to help pay the bills. But dammit – you’re a SOCCER-SPECIFIC-STADIUM! There’s no reason for there to be football lines visible a *week* later!

  8. Oooh-boy… over/under on Danny O’Rourke yielding a PK now that he’s back in the centerback position?

Especially with Findley cutting in from the wings out there.

    Kickoff – LET’S GO CREW!

  9. It’ll be interesting to see RSL have to play on a *real* surface (haha!) instead of that ping-pong table back in Utah.

    Hey crown-heads! Welcome to football!
