  1. I know Man United were missing players, but that was more than I hoped for coming into the match. The new signings looked good, and Owen and Viduka are yet to come back. I’m oficially excited about Newcastle’s chances this season.

  2. When the NY Jets won the superbowl in the 70s, they granted Broadway Joe Namath with his own country… years later Namath turned to harsh control and dictating politics to rule his own republic… JOE REPUBLIC

  3. Okay, on FSC they just showed the banner for the start of the CCL. I checked the guide on my comcast box to see if had the teams. It did.

    “New England at Joe Public”.

Is that a joke or the actual name of some team from Costa Rica I’ve never heard of?

  4. For all those who thought Stuttgart was on the way down and that ‘Gladbach would be a surprise time… I point to today’s game. Good to see Mario Gomez back after a bad Euro 2008 🙂

  5. Martins just had a gift ball, wide open on a corner, but the ball played him flatfooted and went wide! It looked like he didn’t expect it.

  6. Newcastle had a decent 1st half. Uphill battle at OT but they’re playing pretty well considering. The new boys DO look pretty good too.

  7. That’s about right. 1-1, a very good run to get on the end of that, with at least a dash of defensive ineptitude from Newcastle.

  8. 22nd minute, Martins got a completely free header, and fired it into the left corner of the net before Scholes could even react to it.

Completely undeserved lead, but I’ll take it.

  9. Villa-City seems a bit stale so far. Just watching the game updates it looks like Villa has the better of the play but still 0-0 at half.
