The All-Active Former Red Bulls/Metros Team

Jozy_altidore_ap

If you’re a Red Bulls fan the above picture probably just put a tear in your eye. Jozy Altidore was a bonafide goal-scoring threat, a budding star with a limitless future. Now he’s gone to Europe.

Red Bulls fans should be used to it by now, talented players leaving and excelling elsewhere. It’s become a tradition, one that is magnified these days by the glaring lack of talent on the current Red Bulls roster. It almost seems like you can’t watch an MLS match without seeing a former MetroStar or Red Bull playing well.

With this in mind, here is the All-former Metros/Red Bulls team, made up of former players who are STILL playing first division soccer in MLS and around the world:

———–Edson Buddle—–Jozy Altidore———

——————-Amado Guevara—————–

Brad Davis—————————–Eddie Gaven

———-Ricardo Clark——Michael Bradley—-

Ramiro Corrales——————–Marvell Wynne

——————Daniel Hernandez——————

——————–Tim Howard———————-

BENCH– Zach Wells, Ezra Hendrickson, Danny O’Rourke, Jason Hernandez, Dema Kovalenko, Jaime Moreno, Sergio Galvan Rey, Ante Razov

HEAD COACH– Carlos Quieroz

ASSISTANT COACHES– Bob Bradley, Carlos Alberto Parreira

Not a bad squad is it? Slightly better than the current squad and I would have to say this group would be an MLS title favorite right about now.

Did I forget anybody? Please share your thoughts on this team and potential additions to the squad in the comments section below.

  1. Ives,

    In all seriousness…

I love your site, and the great RBNY coverage. I agree with you on the bad personnel “luck”, but I really have to question your timing on this one. You know the last few weeks have been horrible around here. This is like kicking a bunch of wounded puppies.

  2. Hate to be a spoil sport, but I think NE, Houston and Chicago’s current lineups are still strong. Its a stretch to say that team would be favored for the MLS Cup.

Houston’s current lineup (Davis, Dero, Rico, Holden) is way better across the midfield and in the back.

  3. This might be more revealing – the Metros/NYRB ALL-MLS team.

This is what the team would look like provided the front office did nothing but draft and sign players from outside the league (letting them retire or go to play abroad as they wish).

  4. Mathis is on trial with a second-division Norwegian team. Doesn’t make the cut.

Daniel Hernandez was a good call so I’m adding him.

  5. Mathis was in Greece last I heard, but no way he even makes the bench when you’ve got Jozy, Buddle, Moreno, and Razov.

  6. Does anyone actually read what Ives posts before they start posting comments? Good grief.

I totally agree, I just use to love watching Campos play GK like a Forward even if it was only for one year. But you are right Zach was the man.

Too bad I missed the fact that IVES has players who are still active (sorry I added some oldies in there)

  8. For more depression, offsides rules has a great little tidbit on the stadium. Grab tumbler with your favorite single malt and check it out.

Ives, have you heard anything about this?

  9. More to the point – how many of those guys are still tormenting RBNY in the MLS? It’s not like all of them took the money and ran off to Europe. Most of them are still pretty good players somewhere in MLS.

  10. Cheer up NYRB fans, there is still plenty of time left in this season to make a push for the playoffs. Things are wide open and the WEST is not that strong.

Ives – your post made me think of the FIRE players who have left

  12. Can’t exactly blame management for losing Howard, Bradley or Josy

And you can’t say they didn’t give Gaven (and perhaps Buddle, Carlk and maybe davis)a chance.

The big one to me is Wynne.

  13. If we stretch the definition of “excelling elsewhere”, Joselito Vaca is part of Bolivia’s 2010 WCQ team, and Fabian Taylor is one of the leading scorers in Norway’s 2nd division 😉

  14. To all retards,

It says former Red Bulls/Metro players that are currently playing first division football. i repeat currently playing.

  15. Almost forgot about Jaime’s down years in early 2000’s. I’m gonna need to see a picture of him in a Metro jersey, that must look really weird.

  17. Ives,

thanks for not including Edsucko Rodriguez in that list. God knows how many nights I have gone to bed crying because of him. I still get chills when I see his name.

I don’t know what is worse. Feeling depressed after seeing your list, or feeling depressed because there is no Red Bulls game on TV this weekend. Am I a sucker for pain or what?
