    1. Just finish watching the Villareal game in GolTV (in Spanish). I think Jozy played really good. Sure, he can improve, but this was his first game and you could see that he is still getting to know his teammates (there were a few plays were they could have get him the ball in a dangerous position but they decided against it.)Also, both of the announcers from GolTv, one Mexican and one Argentinean I think, were impressed with Jozy’s speed and strength.

    2. I’m actually Mexican but I’m not blind to quality players.

As a RB fan I obviously watched Jozy develop into the player he is today.

Any honest RB fan knows that Jozy’s touch is a bit heavy sometimes and it showed in this game in a couple situations but I’m confident he’ll be able to refine that with more seasoning under Pellegrini.

I think Jozy has immense potential but speed and strength isn’t everything, especially for a striker. David Villa isn’t the fastest or strongest attacker but his touch and skillset set him apart from other players in La Liga.

    3. Whoa, spoiler alert. Most of us are going to be watching German league games on GolTV . In this case, knowing the final Hannover score was 5-1 just helps me avoid the shellacking, but in the future DON’T post on games that are going to be shown on GolTV later in the afternoon.

    4. thats what im saying. His first league game, played 45 good minutes. Granted sometimes his touch failed him, but he has the skill for La Liga. Why else would Villareal spend so much money? Im sure there was cheaper more proven players out there. The strength factor is what I think will help him the most because as you said Christian,

Spanish soccer is based mostly around individual skill, not speed and strength

    5. Listened to the Moenchengladbach game today. I have to say that they really coughed up a hairball with that 5-1 loss. Bradley did not get any playing time but did make it to the substitutes bench. Cherundolo was not even on the substitutes bench for Hannover. Gladbach goal was scored by Rob Friend. The score could have easily been 6-1 or 7-1 had it not been for a Heimeroth’s great save on the first Hannover penalty…other saves were made by the goalpost.

    6. Christian is so typical of selfhating American soccer people always running down our players. Altidore had a great first match. He did everything but score. Can’t ask for more than that really for a first game.

    7. I agree Jacob although the first 15 mins for him were really good.

There were a couple of times when Jozy was in a good position to score but Pires didn’t feed him the ball, that kinda bothered me.

    8. Real Madrid down 1 in the 7th minute to newly promoted Numancia.

      Wow.

And Christian, I’d say that they never completely shut him down, He was still making plays in the 70s and 80s of that game.

    9. LOL @ Doug

Spanish soccer is based mostly around individual skill, not speed and strength.

Jozy had a great 12-15 mins at the beginning of the second half but then the Depor defenders figured out how to mark him.

His touch is still too heavy and he hasn’t learned how to properly use his “strength” when going in for challenges.

Once Nihat and Rossi return, Jozy will go back down the depth chart, although to be honest I’d put him ahead of Llorente and Franco but he still has plenty of time to improve.

    10. Milan AND Fiorentina go down. What a crazy opening two weeks it’s been in Italy. Milan with no points, Roma and Fiorentina with one apiece — let’s see what happens with Juve this afternoon. They’re my favorite to win the scudetto, but Udinese is no cakewalk.

If Udinese can find a way to get a result on the road, we will see four of the five favorites in Serie A go the first two weeks of the season without a victory.

    11. just trying to help people watch the game, tvu has been pretty good for me, free FSC and Goltv without having to rely on in and out streams, and in no way is it spyware, but whatever makes you happy

    12. im watching this and it looks as if Jozy has gotten even bigger. He is bodying everyone out there. He’s having a good 45. After seeing this, im not sure why he is left off the CL roster. Nihat, Rossi, or Franco donthave his combo of strength and speed

    13. Jozy with a near assist and a near goal, as well as some good touches in the last 18 mins. He’s definitely making a strong case for more playing time.

    14. Jozy beats a defender one-on-one and cuts it back nicely to the six but the finish is botched (didn’t hear who it was who couldn’t finish it.)

    15. Justin, my initial ranking was two weeks ago and was just an initial ranking. Obviously I’m going to tweak and tighten them as the season goes on so I’m well aware of Zenit’s issues.

And yes, Jozy is on the bench for Villarreal.

    16. With 9 matches left for most teams, Russia’s top of the table clash went to the team at the top:

      Rubin Kazan 1-0 Dinamo Moscow

So Ives, I realize a disproportionate amount of weight is placed on European results for your rankings, but a glance at the RPL table might be in order before automatically making Zenit the Russian representative on your list!
