European Goals of the Week

Zlatan_ibrahimovic_reuters

There’s just something about a beautiful goal that can bring a smile to a soccer fan’s face.

That is why the newest SBI series will try to bring you the weekend’s best goals in Europe’s top leagues every Monday. Obviously, finding every top goal isn’t always easy, but if the videos are out there, we will try to bring them to you.

This week’s installment includes a Peter Crouch bicycle kick (yes, it’s a amazing as you would expect from a flying seven-footer), a Zlatan Ibrahimovic back-heel that has to be seen to be believed, and a montage of Barcelona’s six-goal thrashing of Atletico Madrid (including stunning finishes from Samuel Eto’o and Thierry Henry).

Enjoy:

  1. Blatant dangerous play from Zlatan–albeit an amazing bit of skill. The defender’s head was inches away.

Also, I’d like to echo the sentiment–love the new feature. And I’m not that eager to see any MLS highlights. Certainly not a token one just to be “fair.”

  2. Adriano truly has risen from the ashes. The past few years have been pretty bad for him, good to see him back on top.

  3. As much as I am thrilled at Barca’s mauling of Atletico, I’ve got to give it to Zlatan for scoring where others wouldn’t even have tried.

  4. That guy scores more goals via impossible backheels and flicks than the rest of the world combined.

THe goal for Sweden in the World Cup quickly comes to mind as well.

But let’s not overlook the fact that Adriano has somehow reappeared form nowhere. Jose has a way of getting the sulkers to perform.

  5. Love the feature Ives. It’s hard to pick between such great goals. I watched the Barcelona game. The first half was one of the most entertaining/amazing games I have seen in a long time. It’s how soccer is supposed to be played.

By the way, I got to play on RSL’s field this morning under the lights and I can tell you that it brought shivers it was so beautiful. The field is like a golf green, and the stadium absolutely gorgeous. And visiting teams beware. It’s going to be loud! It’s going to be special going to games there.

  7. In any other week seeing that gangly giant Crouch do a bike would be the hands down winner, but Ibrahimovich’s cheeky backheel has got to take it.
