I can only hope that he got arrested by HPD after the game

Arrested? For what? Making a derogatory racial comment may be incredibly insensitive and stupid. It is not, however, a crime. There is nothing to arrest him for.

  2. Kevin,

Welcome to the real world. In the real world, MLS does what they feel is best for themselves in terms of getting their product on TV to as many viewers as possible. If that means that they don’t get a chance to show games to a few people in Ann Arbor, MI, well, that’s a tough break.

Michigan football, on the other hand, has the strength, ad revenue, and bargaining power of the entire big 10 conference behind it. As such, they can get TV deals with ESPN and/or ABC that put their product on a much wider distribution path.

Try comparing apples to apples sometime.

  3. Wow–Goff is reporting that post-match, one of the Houston fans evidently called DC’s GK a monkey and told him to go back to the jungle at which point the GK went after the fan.

I can only hope that he got arrested by HPD after the game, or at least gets a lifetime ban from the Dynamo front office… you know, that’s the first time I’ve heard of anything about racists supporting the Dynamo.

As for the game itself, DC got the point by elbowing any Dynamo near the ball in the face (which is exactly what led to the red card) and by a very good game from Crayton, who stopped more than one shot that was going to the back of the net. That puts Houston up only 2 points over Chivas USA (with a game in hand) in the race for the Western conference title.

  4. I agree, I think it’s ridiculous that ESPN has contracts where games are shown exclusively on Telefutura and not even online. I mean I love the Chicago Fire, but I go to school in Ann Arbor, MI and can’t go to all of their games, so if the game isn’t shown online (which for example, the game in April against Kansas City nobody could find a link for online) then I have no way of watching the match. For that match I had to call every bar in the area and ask them if they have Telefutura and nobody had it. Part of supporting a team is that you watch every one of their games no matter what, so to not be able to do that is a slap in the face to dedicated fans. I can’t count on one hand the number of Michigan football games since I was about 7 that I did not see live and in their entirety on one hand, and it should be the same way for Chicago Fire but unfortunately some of the games simply aren’t viewable. For fans dedicated enough to sit on a computer and watch a match for two hours because the game isn’t on TV, not being able to see some matches is ridiculous. But it’s not like I should have to change my cable provider and by some in depth package just for the few times during April and October when I’m at school and the Fire are on telefutura. The point is, MLS should have those games on their DK package, or atleast let you pay separately to watch those games online and that money can just go straight to Telefutura – they would make more money that way than by trying to get people to find a cable package with Telefutura because in some areas they don’t exist.

to complete the facts as we know them, Crayton did not go to physically attack the fan, but just wanted to approach him to ask why the fan felt the need to say what they did

  7. Amazing the DC pulled out a draw. They were down a man the last 20 minutes and evidently didn’t play Moreno, Fred, Emilio, Gallardo. Would have been better for Red Bulls if Houston had won.

  8. Why do ppl complain so much about DK? They make it very clear they don’t show the ESPN, FSC and Telefutura games. It’s not like it was a big secret.

  9. this guy:

Some of the games (including a few recent Fire matches) have been shown exclusively on Telefutura. I don’t think direct kick can show those.

  11. 2 Questions:

    1. When did diving become common and accepted in the MLS. The MLS is my favorite league because the games are decided on the field. I will admit that my beloved Fire have an avid diver from south of the border but the refs know better when Blanco does it and they don’t blow for it. In the last 2 weeks I have seen 2 of the worst incidents in Kamara and Gaven. We have to put an end to this when keepers are getting more cards for delaying than grown men on the pitch are getting for diving.

    2. Why with my MLS Direct Kick pass do I not get half the games. I’ve watched the last 3 Fire games on random live feeds. Including a Korean channel today. I live in Italy but am an American just serving in the military. I can only get Serie A matches so I watch the MLS on the Internet.
