The two top teams in Europe will square off on Sunday as Liverpool travels to Chelsea on the most high-profile match-up of the weekend.

That battle for first place is just one of several high-caliber matches. Not only are there good games in Europe, but there is also a crucial playoff position decider in MLS play as Real Salt Lake and Colorado meet with the winner reaching the playoffs.

If you want to see some Americans Abroad, this will be a good weekend to watch them. Villarreal (Jozy Altidore), Monaco (Freddy Adu), Reading (Marcus Hahnemann) and Fulham (Clint Dempsey) are all on American TV this weekend.

You can check out the Top Five matches to watch, and this weekend’s soccer on TV schedule after the jump. Enjoy:

  1. Ives (or anyone who knows):

Are Khano Smith and Gabriel Badilla both going to be suspended for the first game of the playoffs after their red cards? As in, do red card punishments spill over to the playoffs?

Why is FSC showing Chivas and Houston? They choose a game with no real playoff implications (in that both are already in), when they could have had Real Salt Lake and Colorado. Argh!

  2. anyone notice that since messi has adopted the sacha klesjtan emo-kid haircut he’s been even more awesome this season…pulled the strings in 5-0 demoliton of almeria

  3. Does any one else find the coverage of the Italian league on FSC good or bad. I mean its ok but it gets old. wish it would cover a bit more.

  4. For those watching later, looks like Blackburn-Middlesboro had a great ending that I missed talking to my wife. Gotta sacrifice some things…

  5. Game ends 0-0. My man Hunt had his chance on the left side of the box but couldn’t control the cross. Reading remain 3rd, but closer to 4th than 2nd.

Hennamenn was solid, but in the 30 mins I saw, QPR never produced a shot of real quality for all the chances they had.

  6. beckster (or others) – how clean was that challenge in the box? My feed keeps buffering and I never got a look. Dangerous by Reading regardless, there have been a lot of bad tackles.

  7. alticooper – yeah, he is playing LB for the best performing defense in France. And yeah, I’m bummed out by Heath Pearce’s lack of development. Unless we try the Beasley at LB experiment for real, it might be time to try Boca on the left.

  8. Reading with 4 consecutive deadball chances (1 fc, 3 ck) as QPR keep knocking it over the endline. Finally, Reading get a chance to head it just wide for a goal kick.

  9. Ives or anyone… espn has bocanegra listed at left back. He was also listed at left back for the last game they played as well. Is this true? God I hope so. USMNT is stacked with centerbacks and not one decent leftback. Does anyone know if we will see Boc at left back for us? Pearce can’t even get a start for a bundesliga 2 team while bornstien is nothing more than an above average mls defender.

  10. In the Reading match, QPR are pressing, Hennamenn has made 3 saves in the last 5 mins, none too tough though. Their attackers have had a lot of time, but not good enough to beat Marcus. Reading have had some promising counters, but haven’t gotten a shot off

  11. I have Verizon FIOS in the NYC area and they have a free preview of Setanta this weekend, so everyone might want to check their cable systems. Was able to watch the ManU v. Everton game this morning. Hope this can help at least some of you with the Chelsea-Liverpool game on tomorrow.

  12. Im hoping Dempsey can get the start tomorrow and produce something for Fulham. They have a decent team and yet playing shitty, he shouldnt be on the bench. He needs to be starting.

  13. Bayern vs Wolfsburg has been a great game, too bad my feed has been in and out. Bayern spotted them a 2 goal lead, and has roared back with 4 goals.

Bradley got the start again and played 77 mins, and Borussia M’gladbach got the win! After 6 losses to start the year, they give Bradley 2 starts and they’ve got 4 points to show.

  14. Rangers won 3-1 with a brace from Kris Boyd. Beasley played the full 75mins quite brillantly. Glad he’s bringing his A game back up. But what’s up with Edu? I know he won’t be starting but should at least make the bench.

  15. They should be showing the Rennes game. Bocanegra has been a wall along the backline so far this season. Not far off from Defender of the Month if you ask me.

  16. Who favors to get the MLS Golden Boot? Donovan or Cooper? Im having a distinct feeling Cooper is gonna bag a brace tonight leaving Donovan cold-faced.

  17. BBC write-up talks about how Howard saved Everton in the first half with some great saves under constant bombardment. Good outcome for the Toffees.

  18. Ives, saw the Zidane film at BAM in Brooklyn. A great but weird film that should be seen on the big screen instead of a TV. It is 90 minutes of just watching him during one game in 2005. You don’t see much of the game at all, just him wandering around most of the time and the fans in the background. It has the weird effect of making you feel like you are inside his head. They do let you see enough to realize that it was a perfect game to film.

  19. Don’t have access to TV but looking at the various gamecasts and live commentary, doesn’t look like Timmy has had a very pleasant 1st half. Lots of Man U shots unleashed at him and he has conceded some corners.

  20. Dang, Ives…working late?

I like that AC Milan-Atalanta matchup also. We’ll find out a bit more about Ives’ 7th ranked European club. 🙂

    And don’t forget Sunday’s kickfest…Bolton v. Tottenham…ah the humanity of it! I’m playing golf.

    Cheers,
