Sunderland fans will be happy to know that forward Kenwyne Jones will remain with the Black Cats after the Trinidadian inked a new four-and-a-half year deal earlier today. The new deal provides a sigh of relief for the Sunderland faithful after days of speculation on his future with the team.

Tottenham, currently in 16th place and just one spot below Sunderland in the Premier League standings, had recently been inquiring about the 24-year-old striker. Though Sunderland repeatedly said Jones was not for sale, Tottenham kept inquiring about him.

But after a few days of uneasiness in Sunderland's camp, Jones has squashed away any rumor of leaving after signing a lucrative deal that will keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2013. Terms of the deal were undisclosed. Jones has scored five goals in the Premiership and two in cup competitions this season, a season that started late after he came back from major knee surgery.

What do you think of Jones' new deal? Disappointed he didn't join Tottenham? Think he's better off at Sunderland? Worried about how the U.S. team will handle him in World Cup qualifying?

  1. I think its good that Sunderland are making the investment to hold on to young talent. It would be better for them in the long run than to try and cash in on players right now. Its a step in the right direction.

  2. scores a goal against fulham 🙁

good for him though, always kind of liked watching him play. For some reason makes me think of what shalrie joseph would be like if he played striker.
