Duka, Cruz help US Under-20s trounce Jamaica

USA Crest

The U.S. Under-20 national team is off to a flying start in the CONCACAF Championships after routing Jamaica, 3-0, on Friday in Tobago.

Houston Dynamo rookie Danny Cruz helped set up the U.S. team's first two goals as Peri Marosevic, Dilly Duka and Billy Schuyler scored for the Americans.

Cruz and Duka worked to set up Marosevic's opener while Duka finished off a Cruz feed in the second half. Schuyler came off the bench to finish a pass from Gale Agbossoumonde.

The U.S. team leads its qualifying group with three points after Honduras and El Salvador tied, 2-2, earlier on Friday.

What do you think of this result? Glad to see Thomas Rongen's boys lay the smackdown? Is Danny Cruz ready to prove he should have gone higher in the MLS Draft? Are you pumped to see two New Jersey boys score?

  1. In post game interview Cruz says, he’s glad to play for team that wanted him and not a team that passed on him twice.
Anyone know which team passed on Cruz twice? Is that the Galaxy?

  3. I think the Honduras-ES game was on Justintv, so I’ll keep an eye out and link it if they show the US playing one (or both) of those teams.

  4. I can’t believe they won’t be putting on any of the games on TV that is stupid. They put on the CONMEBOL’s Sub 20 qualifying but nobody picked up any of the games for the CONCACAF in the continent they live and play for?!?!?! How does that make sense?

  5. Will any of these games be televised? And if they are what channels will be broadcasting? I think it’s a shame ESPN would rather fill their lineup with poker and bull riding rather than show a game. Fox Soccer Channel isn’t any better they’re constantly playing old rerun games from a couple of years ago RIDICULOUS!

  6. Some Answers To Your Questions

Yes Breck Shae can play anywhere, and has played everywhere, as a U-17 He played attacking mid and winger. The U-20’s of Thomas Rongen have always played a 4-3-3. Two years ago the qualifiers and the WC Canada for U-20’s was on ESPNU.

  7. From the matchtracker on ussoccer Duka and Cruz sounded like the standouts. Perk the keeper also seemed to have a few very nice saves. They came out with a 4-3-3, something different from most U.S. teams I have seen. What position does Brek Shea actually play? I thought i heard Dallas want him as a defender, but the matchtracker had him up top. Is he just one of those guys coaches stick anywhere?

  9. I listened to that interview of Rongen that Ives posted and he sounds like a nice guy for what it’s worth. And I love the style he has our U-20 guys playing. As for how good a job he does at identifying and helping develop talent, I have no idea as I’m not qualified and not seeing it up close. And I’m pretty sure 99% of people aren’t qualified either…lotta sofa coaches. Either way, come on USA!

  10. I agree Jacob. Rongen always has his boys play with attacking flair. He’s a hell of a coach. Not sure about his choice of words or talent scouting but he’s a hell of game coach.

  11. Can anyone tell me if they televise any U-20 games and on what channels? I would really appreciate that and love to watch this team in action

  12. Could Dilly be our first one-name guy? I think that’s a great name to choose, and the matchtracker referred to him as it. Let’s start the movement.

  13. Reading the match recap, it sounds like the US played very attacking football. Lots of through-balls and good passing. I like the creative play Rongen is able to generate.

Dilly Duka played very very well. He was the best player on the pitch. Cruz wasn’t too far behind either.

  14. People can hate on Rongen all they want, but I enjoy watching the U-20s play more than any other level.

He actually gets players in US uniforms to score outside of set pieces.
