Charlie Davies came off the bench and scored twice in extra time to carry Hammarby IF to victory over second-division club Atvidabergs FF in the second round of the Swedish Cup.

The American striker, who is tied for a team best 2 goals in the Swedish league, helped Hammarby bounce back from a late 2-1 deficit as he found the equalizer in the 99th minute before scoring the game-winner one minute from the death and penalty kicks.

Davies and Hammarby next play GAIS on April 29 in a league match.

What do you think of Davies' latest goal-scoring performance? Do you see him going to a bigger club this summer? Think Bob Bradley should include him in the World Cup qualifiers and Confederations Cup roster? Or is he better suited to shine in the Gold Cup?

  1. Davies should go to Holland. Yes, I know that French clubs are calling for him, but the Ligue 1,2 clubs are still a bit too good for him to step in and really make a huge difference, at least not for a while. Holland is a decent league and I think we need another winging forward, like Beasley. The only drawback is that Davies won’t learn the defensive responsiblities of being that kind of winger but with him being a goal scorer he really shouldn’t have to.

You might want to recheck your facts there. Unless you consider scoring 5 minutes after being subbed on to be unimpressive. But before you do that you may need to check which games he actually played in.

  3. If you compare the careers of DAvies and EDU, Davies had more noise and would have been a the number one pick and made good mooney in MLS but instead he wanted Europe and went to sweden, Edu goes number one and goes in MLS and goes to Rangers, plays at wembley and when they went to south africa, whose career would you rather have? I think CD is behind the curve because he went to sweden, just like Kamani hill, Ngyuen, and all the other guys who went straight to the smaller european countries.

Nyguen is in Vietnam now. If he comes back from that then it will the biggest yank story every. His nats career, not like he had one anyway, is over.

  5. The kid needs to go play in a real league, Sweden has one of the weakest leagues in the world very simular to USL in America. Thes goals do little in BB eyes to elevate him.

  6. Way to go CD!!!! I know he had interest from a few French clubs but Hammarby didn’t want to sell him. Hopefully he can move to another club soon.

  7. I’m glad Davies is playing well in Sweden, but let’s keep in perspective that him scoring twice against a second division Swedish club is about as impressive as an MLS player scoring twice against a USL squad. Only when he moves to a more competitive league will we get a true sense of how good Davies is.

  8. I’m glad Johnson is turning things around, but he still has no business getting called up. I’d honestly take Casey over him right now just on principle–he was given a free ride for far too long.

  9. “Many” will argue the Colaship is better than the Swedish league?

Try NO ONE will argue that because there is no argument. The competition in the Colaship is much better than in Sweden.

I love to see the kid do well. I really do, but the Swedish league isn’t exactly blowing up. Let’s see him move to a country like Holland and see what he does.

  10. from Jacob A. – “Gilbert, EJ has scored two (2) in the last two (2) months in England’s second (2nd) best league.”

    First, that’s a lot of twos (2).

Second, (there’s another one) many will argue that the Championship is better top to bottom than the Swedish league.

  11. I’d rather have him on the bench at a big club right now, he’s young, and as we have found with Altidore, bench on a big club with good coaches and strong day-to-day challenges is better than starting on a paltry team.

  12. Charlie got call-ups with the “B” squads and got thrown on the pitch with a bunch of guys that had never played together before.

I’d like to see what he could do playing with the 1st team alongside Altidore.

  13. He has to move on this summer, but needs to get a starting role with a decent club, not a bench role on a big club.

He should be up top starting in the Gold Cup, I can’t see him going to Africa for the Confederations Cup.

  15. Has Eddie Johnson scored two (2) goals, in all competitions, in the last two (2) years? He gets called up for WCQ’s, but the likes of Davies and Cooper have to watch the game/s from home.

  16. Davies should be one of our starting strikers for the Gold Cup.

It is pretty much a given that he will be sold this summer, this would also give the opportunity to be on the Confed team. But he should still be used as a super-sub for our first choice team.
