Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

Fernando Torres 5 (Reuters)

Good morning folks. As the European season winds to a close the title races in the top leagues have been all but decided. That doesn't mean there aren't still matches worth watching.

Everton-Tottenham, Fulham-Aston Villa and Houston Dynamo-FC Dallas (for the MLS die-hards) are just three of the better match-ups to keep an eye out for. For those of you who have started watching Mexican soccer, San Luis-Toluca is a good one to watch (and not just because of Michael Orozco)

If you will be watching today's action (or if you already caught some of the early matches like the Old Firm), please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action.

  1. Boca has had 1 heck of a season. Glad Gooch is scoring more and more. Hope he can head to either PSG/Marseille in the summer and if not them, a team in Spain.

  3. valencia pasted real madrid today 3-0. goals by mata, silva, and baraja. looked just like barca out there. could have easily been 6-0. villa missed a ton of chances but had the assist on mata’s goal. if you guys havent seen valencia play yet, you should. Just as entertaining to watch as barcelona and should have actually beat barca a while back. if one of the oil giants bought valencia and retained their current talent, they could do major damage in the champions league next year assuming they keep a hold on the 4th spot in la liga.

  4. @ Jao,

Well said regarding Briand. Al17 at least Guy Lacombe could have used him with some of those missed opportunities…
Everyone is this accurate or Real is down 2-0 to Valencia? ouch

Are you serious? Briand was playing pretty well before he got injured (while he was playing with France). Now Pagis, different story.

Indeed he has. When he (Oruma) first signed, I thought he signed with them because no one else wanted him. I was primarily referring to since Eduardo’s arrival in 2007.

  7. Guingamp is playing some great football, since they scored the equalizer, they have been inspired to knock the ball around through Ogunbiyi, Oruma, Soumah and Dos Santos… Also Rennes is missing Briand cos he would have buried half the chances they missed as a team today. They freaking struck the cross bar twice!!

No he wouldn’t have. Jimmy B. has had a mediocre season at best. Rennes have had a problem scoring all season.

  8. @ Jao,

Eduardo is not the only signing that has been a savior for Guingamp. Their midfield playmaker Wilson Oruma has been a great addition after he left Marseille last season and even with different injuries during his career. Even Eduardo just gave him praise during the post game interview. Jerome Leroy killed Rennes with his missed chances.

  9. Rennes misses a good chance after 90+! low shot far post… exciting stuff from both side but sucks for Rennes. Glad to see Boca play a part in Rennes run all season.

  10. What a story! Not only for Bocanegra, but for Guingamp. A commune of 8,000 people. Coupe de France champions and the Europa League. Great day for Bretagne.

  12. What a story!!!

Last year he couldn’t get time on the field for Fulham and now he scores the first goal of the match for Britanny’s Stade Rennes in Coupe de France Finale. Also the first American to score in the tournament.

    But Superbe!!!
