Happy Mother's Day everybody. While today is a day to celebrate the mothers, wives, sisters and daughters in our life, it is also a day with a LOT of quality soccer matches to watch. You might have to TIVO some of them as you celebrate the holiday, but chances are you will eventually see some top notch soccer.
The Manchester Derby already took place earlier this morning, but Arsenal and Chelsea are set to clash in a battle of London at 11am on FSC. If the Bundesliga is more your speed then you can watch Hamburg and Werder Bremen in a UEFA Cup semifinal rematch (11am, GolTV). Barcelona-Villarreal (1pm, GolTV), AC Milan-Juventus (2:30pm, FSC) and San Lorenzo-Boca Junior (4:30pm, GolTV) are just some of the other quality games on display (as well as LA-Seattle at 3pm on Telefutura).
If you will be watching today's action, or watched this morning's games, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.
Enjoy the action and have a Happy Mother's Day.
And the same ref that got Carver the fine after the Dallas match.
Same ref for Chivas v. LA who gave out 9 cards or so. Embarrasing for the MLS.
If you feel it was minimal contact then iut should be a PK. It doesn’t matter how much contact there is especially. since it was a great scoring chance.
As I stated before the red card was a joke. LA isn’t a good team.
“Sean, aren’t you on here after every Galaxy game saying the exact same thing? I believe in luck, but when the first half of the season has been filled with nothing but “luck” for the galaxy it gets a bit questionable. Honestly, do you feel happy when the Galaxy (or “us” as you refer to them, are you on the developmental roster?) get gifted games like this over and over? ”
Yes I refer to them as us,because its my team. Look at the replay, Jacqua goes down in MINIMAL contact. the only CLEAR bad call was opening day the hand ball that was called on DC….apart from that have been deserved, or shouldn’t have been penaltys. Did you watch the RSL LA game?RSL’s penalty was a clear dive, yet you don’t say anyting. If it was the other way around you would be screaming bloody murder. Perhaps you should watch games before you comment on them, just a thought.
Galaxy tied you say? I for one am SHOCKED.
A “beast” that should have been carted off the field if he was that hurt. Rickett’s was time wasting, there’s really no argument against it. He should have been either subbed out or given a card for his 4 minutes of time wasting.
Ricketts has had groin and shoulder problems ever since he came to LA. Gonzalez and Sanneh had to do goal kicks for him for the rest of the game after Ricketts got hurt. Don’t dis Ricketts, he’s a beast!

George, were you watching the game…at all? They packed 10 into the box for their entire time with a man up and that time wasting via rolling around in excruciating pain of Ricketts (twice) definitely signifies a team that wants to win. What a joke.
Also, Sigi said that LA brought on midfielders for forwards to retain the draw. Not True. When Klein came on for Kirovski, Landon moved to the striker position. When Lewis came on for Gordon, Magee became a striker as well. Furthermore, at the 84th minute Edson Buddle (Striker) came on for Dema Kovalenko (Defensive Midfielder).
LA wasn’t playing for a tie — we just suck offensively and can’t retain possesion. If you look at the Galaxy player comments, the players said they were dissapointed that they could not get the win with a man advantage.

LA won’t be in it at the end.. Donovan is about to slip into obscurity playing for such a bogus outfit
Sigi after the game –
“I’ve known the referee for a long time,” said Sigi Schmid. “When I was coaching in college we were allowed to list a couple of referees who would not be put on your games. He hasn’t refereed many games that I’ve coached.”
a few thoughts from a fan at the SEA-LA game:
-I’m surprised no one ran onto the pitch and suplexed that ref after that non-call against Jaqua. I’ve seen penalties called for so much less, and by the sound of the crowd, so had everyone else.
-What infuriates me more is the series of make-up calls he gave the sounders, because it shows that he knew he was wrong.
-Riley deserved the red, but Magee went down easier than a two dollar ho. Bad form from the two.
-LA should be ashamed of themselves for playing for the tie. Absolutely embarrassing.
Disappointing game, especially since chivas pulls even further ahead this week.
you guys sure like to cry, why don’t you just beat us rather than complain about stuff and say how bad we are?
At the game I thought the Jaqua non call was a penalty from the replay at home I am not sure. The red on Riley is a joke, he put his hand around the neck of McGee and pushed him down, there was no swinging motion. This of course happened after Berkhalter delays the game (auto Yellow none given) and grabs Riley who is then grabbed by McGee.
Just another in the growing list of refs changing a game with a questionable red. McGee did a fine acting job.
The Galaxy are boring to watch and can’t even press to get the win when they are up a man.
Also, thanks acj, I was pretty sure I wasn’t imagining that one.
Ha! I knew it, mlsnet didn’t report it, but I was pretty positive it was there. Great call sonic.
Sonic and Jared, donovan did have a yellow, 61st minute for dissent.

(giving the baby a bottle)
Ref from the Seattle/LA game should be out of the league. Obvious penalty missed and totally lost control of the match. MLS needs to figure this horrid ref thing out and fast. Absolutely ruined the game for the fans.
Rastafari: 2006 Edition…
You’re right sonicdeathmonkey, I forgot that Donovan got talked to 3 times for hard tackles without getting a card. My mistake.
The Glas play like the USMNT under Arena…
I wouldn’t call it a conspiracy, just an unbelievably poorly called game. The ref missed some pretty obvious calls. He was out of position for a bunch of other calls. I thought the majority of the bad calls happened to go against the Sounders but I’ll admit I’m biased. Even if you don’t think calls went against the sounders I don’t see how someone could argue that the ref did a good job.
Zeeman, Riley did indeed throw a punch. It didn’t happen in the initial scrum. It happend a few seconds later Telefutura caught it plain as day on a replay. And Jared, I’m not sure why you think Landon was carrying a yellow, because he wasn’t. If you’re going to cry about something, at least get your facts straight before you do it.
Even if you don’t buy the penalty, how about the 20 other ridiculous calls? The Jaqua 50-50 challenge in the air…well, of course its a yellow. Landon does the same thing 2 minutes later, obviously a no call, since Landon was carrying a yellow and giving ridiculously soft reds is above this referee…wait a minute…
My question to Galaxy fans, is is this still fun for you to watch? Seeing the Galaxy gifted call after call in game after game? Or is it like a drinking game, where you see in what new and interesting ways the referee will assist the Galaxy to their next result.
I have had nothing against the Galaxy in the past, and I actually like Landon Donovan, but that game was horrifically called, I really haven’t seen such poor officiating in quite some time. Officiating like this makes the MLS a real downer to watch. Seriously, give me Division II Women’s Soccer over this garbage.
JesseMT: We’re planning on it – maybe next season. I love the scene there.
Cuban Missile: The punch was afterward, after the initial idiotic wrestling to the ground. It came during the shoving match that followed. Not much of a punch – but it doesn’t have to be to get a red.
I haven’t seen the Galaxy play this year, but today was the biggest display of cowards soccer I have ever seen. And if you think what Riley did was a punch then I don’t think any of you have ever been punched before. Riley reached around Mike Fagee’s head and pulled him down. Bruce Arena takes the blame for having his team play like this. Play to tie or not lose whay to go Arena and the Gals you have clearly displayed your lack of testicle fortitude. As for Seattle, it just show’s the fear so many teams have in playing us. Seattle does need to work on their discipline, Although it was kind of hard to do that with all the BS going on. ZeeMan- From the look of the galaxy’s record it appears they are content with drawing every game. Landon’s gotta leave, this has to be a nightmare for his career.
this team has much more heart and much more togetherness that then the galaxy team have had in a couple of years now..when all the lads are fit the only shaky playing is migliorenzi….which will be filled in later….because of some idot who should have started in LA….italy

Kevin Johnson, Guiza went to Fenerbahce to play for former Spain manager Luis Aragones. Seemed like a questionable decision at the time but Fener has been known to spend when they want to so I’m sure Dani got paid well. I’m sure he’ll be on the move again this summer.
Guiza followed Aragones to Turkey, where both have had very disappointing seasons and look to be heading for greener pastures.
Riley did not throw a punch. He grabbed the back of his head and threw him down. However, by the fall the guy took you’d think Riley was a behemoth.
I did however find it funny that even a man down Seattle was pushing for a win while the galaxy looked content with a draw.
Tony – love it. Fans in San Jose watching the LA/Seattle game with their kids. You are awesome. Hope you can make it up to Qwest sometime.
The ref made terrible call on both sides.
Im mad we didnt go for the win the last 15 minutes….gonzalez is shocking passing the ball out the back
JesseMT
It wasn’t much of a punch, but it was a punch. After the yellow I told my son Riley was going to get suspended when the league reviewed the game. It was after that the fourth official alerted the ref.
I’d have to see the replay, but I bet what the AR saw was MaGee’s flop attack.
The head ref didn’t see him throw the punch either. It was either the AR or 4th ref that saw him throw it.
I’m revising my opinion of the ref downward because he has not established control over the nastiness. Someone is going to get hurt in this game
Alright – I didn’t see him throw a punch either. If he did that’s a fine red. Sounders once again looking dangerous with 10 men. I think we play better with 10 than 11 sometimes.
Riley was booked because of the scrum he had with Berhalter, and sent off because he threw a punch. I completely agree though that Berhalter should have been shown a card for his part in things though too.
Well OK maybe I’m a little biased, but here was the play as it happened. LA whistled for a foul. Ljungberg stepped up to take the FK quickly. Berhalter walks away with the ball. Riley grabs it back. Scrum ensues. Magee gets in Riley’s face, and falls over like a U-12 girl. That’s when Riley was yellowed, and nothing happened to any LA player. Riley and Ljungberg both lost their minds, and were booked again.
RealPSL:I think the fourth official told the ref about the punch – I don’t think he saw it initially, so that didn’t bother me.
You have a point with Berhalter however.
As a non-partition, I’m not having many problems with the ref in the Seattle/LA game.
Riley should have been dismissed immediately and Berhalter should have received a yellow for obstructing the progress of the game.
This would be funny coming so soon after the Ives ESPN refs-are-improving article if it wasn’t my team. Maybe the refs are improving as a whole but this guy….
He has completely lost control of this game, it is a rather embarrassing display all around.
OK maybe thats over the top but not by much.
This ref should be investigated or suspended.
Ives can you hear me, why did Daniel Guiza, top goal scorer of La Liga last season with 27goals head to Fenerbache. He had offers from Arsenal and even Barca. He has 7goals in 28matches for the team and is sorta a flop. What’s the dealio? Why would he head to Turkey? Even Holland would have been a more prospect to head to?
All I wanna know is where in Europe are Kljestan and Cooper going? And does Connor Casey have a chance of heading to the 2 Bundesliga again or Scandinavia? He’s a decent striker and clearly improving.
And for that matter what about Davies and Gooch? They moving up this summer?
