Soccer Sunday: Your Running Commentary

EPL Logo

Today marks arguably the most important day of the year in the English Premier League, the final day of the season, the last chance for teams to avoid being relegated and avoid losing out on the millions of dollars (er, pounds) that come with life in the EPL.

Four teams are battling to avoid falling into one of the two remaining relegation spots alongside West Bromwich Albion. Sunderland, Hull City, Newcastle and Middlesbrough are all in jeopardy and all four have tough tasks. Sunderland (vs. Chelsea) and Hull (vs. Manchester United) have extremely difficult opponents at home, while Sunderland (at Aston Villa) and Middlesbrough (at West Ham) face daunting road tests.

The EPL relegation race is the marquee event of the day, but just one of many highlights on this busy Soccer Sunday. You have matches in MLS, Argentina and France just to name a few.

  1. Brant, good call about Colocinni. I am still puzzled was to how he made Argentina’s WC roster in 2004. The guy is a liability in defense and a blackhole going forward!

  2. Standard Liege are Belgian champs again. Lost the video feed in the final minute, but had the audio. They’re back in the Champions League as well.

Hopefully Gooch can move on to another team where he has the same impact as he did on Standard.

It was a brutal game, lots of rough fouls, and fans. Fun to watch and listen.

  3. the standard liege fans have been going nuts all game long. They are assaulting every Anderlecht player who takes a corner kick or throw-in. The stewards deserve a bonus after this match.

  4. So every team which HAD to win today in the Premiership… lost.
I believe this match day just re-defined “anticlimactic.”

  5. ThaDeuce – how much coffee did you have? geez!

I’m not sure I want Tevez at Liverpool. I don’t know why, just don’t have a good feeling about that happening.
