This weekend’s Soccer on TV

With so many high-profile matches on this weekend's slate of games, a recurring story line throughout  Europe's top leagues is teams attempting to win their respective league titles.

Manchester United is a positive result away from adding more hardware to their trophy cabinet. If Sir Alex Ferguson's men can at least tie a young Arsenal squad in a battle of Premier League heavyweights then they will have secured the EPL title for a second consecutive season.

Barcelona and Inter Milan could also clinch their league's titles if they can bounce back from last week's slip ups which saw both teams draw despite second-half leads. Barcelona must defeat Mallorca as visitors while Inter Milan has to take care of business at home against Siena in order to be crowned their league's champions.

Wondering what other games might pique your interest this weekend? Here is this weekend's full list of televised games:

  1. GOAL KAMARA!!!! 40th minute
slick through pass down the right flank by Danny Murphy to bust Nevland who took it all the way into the box, then as the keeper came out he played a neat pass to Kamara all by himself across the box. Kamara had time to take a touch and then blast it into the top of the net 5 feet from goal. This was a stellar counterattack.

    FULHAM 1-0 NEWCASTLE

  2. WOW, Roy Hodgeson is starting Nevland and Kamara over healthy AJ and Zamora!!!
Wow, that is faith, that is awesome.

  3. The Bundesliga title race is insane. It will probably come down to goal differential unless Stuttgart draw or beat Bayern. TSG Hoff v Bayern is a great match on Saturday.

Pounding beers to stay awake? Hmmmmm. I pound beers to pass out and wake up in a gutter. I pound coffee to stay awake.

But hey, whatever floats your boat

  5. Murty and Marcus among those to leave
Posted on: Fri 15 May 2009

Reading FC have confirmed that Graeme Murty, Marcus Hahnemann, Leroy Lita and Michael Duberry have all been released at the end of their contracts this summer.

Alan Bennett and young pros Gary Frewen, Scott Golbourne, Tom Hateley and Daniel Spence will also leave the Club.

Brynjar Gunnarsson has been offered a new one-year contract, while youngsters Oliver Bozanic, Scott Davies and Ben Hamer have also been offered new deals.

Director Of Football Nick Hammond told the Club’s official website readingfc.co.uk, “The players who are leaving will all be sorely missed, but this week has seen the end of an era and it’s time for the Club to move on.

“It was important for us to quickly resolve the issue of our out-of-contract players, and doing so allows us to now focus all our energies on recruiting the right person to become our new manager.

“Graeme Murty and Marcus Hahnemann were integral members of the team throughout Steve Coppell’s managerial reign, and they will both forever hold a significant place in the Club’s history.

“Graeme was a fantastic captain and the memories of him lifting the Championship trophy at the end of our promotion season will never be forgotten by any Reading fan.

“Marcus has been a tremendously consistent and reliable goalkeeper for many years, and has without doubt been one of our most important players in the last decade.

“In addition to their undoubted contribution on the pitch, Graeme and Marcus have also been terrific ambassadors for the Club in the local community and I know many supporters will be sorry to see them go.

“Leroy Lita’s goals in his first season at the Club played a vital role in propelling us towards the Premier League, and Michael Duberry has been an important player for us in the last couple of years.

“I would like to sincerely thank them for all their efforts and wish them well for the future.”

  6. Barcelona only needs to draw, not win. 1 point either picked up by Barcelona or dropped by Madrid clinches the title.

  7. Yo Ives! Man U is looking to secure it’s THIRD consecutive title.

I forgive the mistake because I know it’s almost unbelievable, but they are the greatest team of all time.

I’ll be holding my breath for all 90 minutes on 5/27 hoping I don’t regret saying that.

  8. Its not on FSC because Setanta gets to pick the games first. Whatever Setanta doesn’t pick up goes to FSC and they chose which ones to show from the leftover games.

FSC splits the rights with Setanta I believe.

  9. Somebody forgot to mention the Hoffenheim vs Bayern Muenchen game at 11:30am on Saturday on GolTV. Too bad they are showing only one match this weekend.

  10. I believe that Barcelona only needs a tie to clinch since in event of a tie on points with RM, Barcelona will win the title due to vast superior goal differential.

  11. What a disgrace that Fox Sports owns the rights to the EPL and aren’t even showing the potential title winner on their station.

We get some crap instead that means nothing to anyone and not even the relegation battle. Just some mid table fluff that I WON’T be watching.

Fox is losing my respect completely with this Setanta deal. I play Fox 5 dollars a month to watch their channel and I’ll be damned to have to pay Setanta even more to watch games that Fox owns to rights to.

Champions League will be disgusting next year as well.

GolTV – you are getting my viewing this weekend as there are some heavy hitting Bundesliga games that will be full of drama.

  13. Man I need to get Setanta. Why does it have to be SO overpriced? I can’t afford 15 a month for one channel. But the lineup this weekend is ridiculous. Lyon/Marseille is massive, Man U/Arsenal is massive, Fulham/Newcastle is massive.

I will be pounding beers to stay awake until 1 am to watch my beloved Black and Red take on Chivas. No. 1’s battling for early respect in the league, fantastic.
