UEFA Champions League: Manchester United vs. Arsenal (Who will win?)

RooneySagna (ISIphotos.com)

Defending UEFA Champions League champion Manchester United stands one game away from getting a chance to repeat, but standing in the Red Devil's way is an Arsenal side that has enjoyed a strong run of form in recent weeks.

That run of form wasn't on display in the first leg though as Man Utd dominated possession and created countless chances in last week's 1-0 victory. That United only managed one goal could come back to haunt Alex Ferguson's men as they take the trip to London for Tuesday's second-leg decider(2:30pm, ESPN2).

if the first leg was any indication, Tuesday's second leg should be an open attacking match that will be far from boring.

How do you see Tuesday's match playing out? More importantly, how do you see the series concluding?

How do I see the match finishing? I see United beating Arsenal at the Emirates to take the series.

Will Arsenal be able to find cracks in United's stingy defense? Will the Gunners be able to contain Cristiano Ronaldo? Will an unsung hero emerge like John O'Shea did in the first leg?

  1. Arsenal on penalties.

If I have to see another Man U – Chelsea final I am going to throw up. Or even a Barcelona – Arsenal Final.

This competition has become so stale I can barely watch it anymore.

  2. Tonight game I Think it could be tough but arsenal can go throuh if they can get early goals may be between 20minutes after starts.

  3. If Arsenal play a 4-4-2 we’ll win. If we go with Nasri as a holding mid and Diaby wide left in a 4-2-3-1 ManU goes through.

  4. Trust in Arsenal! Anyways the script has already been written, Gunners will rightfully snatch back “their” title from Barca. The End.

  5. Will has a good point. Arsene Wenger also has a thing for trusting his younger players and, to be honest it’s helped them in some situations, like that 2-1 win against Chelsea away from home when Van Persie scored both goals. So if the young guns realize the magnitude of this game and are willing to show their stuff, then this game may be more interesting than I thought.

  6. Sorry, my math was off – it’s not three of the last four. But we have yet to lose to a Big Four side in the Premiership this season.

  7. I’m with DamnManU, both polls could have been better. (Should be an entertaining game I’m looking forward to it).

  8. Arsenal is in a dangerous position. They looked miserable at Old Trafford and one away goal by United could prove to be catastrophic. However, I think Arsenal will pull this one out. Although I may be a bit biased because it’s my favorite club, I think we can win this game.

If you take the records of the top four clubs in the Premiership the last four seasons, but only count their records against each other, Arsenal wins 3 out of the 4 years. Arsenal has a penchant for beating good Premiership teams but losing to lesser sides such as Bolton or Middlesbrough seemingly every time. Djourou and van Persie are expected to be back (they are training this week), and Arsene is rumored to use a 4-4-2. Adebayor almost never scores when he plays alone up top, and the last leg was no exception. Djourou provides an upgrade against Silvestre, who has looked abysmal in the back line (O’Shea was his man on that corner). van Persie is our leading scorer, even after sitting out for a while with injury. And remember that Arsenal have not conceded any goals at home during this year’s Champions League.

Perhaps the most important aspect of this game is that it represents Arsenal’s entire season. This is the club’s last chance for a trophy, for the Premiership is out of reach and Fabianski botched any FA cup hopes. Desperation for a trophy could prove to be enormous.

This isn’t taking anything away from United. They were clearly superior in the last leg, and they are probably the better team overall. I just think that Arsenal has more to play for at this point.

  9. yes, it does ask how you think the ‘series’ ends, not this match.

Man Utd. wins both the match and the series.

  10. Someone needs a lesson in common sense.

If United wins on aggregate, that is the definition of a close series win.

Thanks for posting twice though DamnU/Barcalounger. Well worth the eight-month wait since your last comment.

  11. Someone needs a lesson in the away-goals rule. The options are insufficient imo.

Arsenal 2-1 Manchester United and Man U goes thru. If Man U scores, then Arsenal must win by two to advance.
