Who gets your vote for MLS Goal of the Week?

Santino Quaranta 1 (ISIphotos.com)

There were two things in great abundance in MLS this past weekend. There were plenty of ties and plenty of great goals. In fact, several of this week's top goals were equalizers.

So which of this week's top goals was the best? Have a look and decide for yourself:

You can go to MLSnet.com to cast your vote for MLS Goal of the Week. You can also cast your vote here for which goal you thought was best:

Which goal gets my vote? While Eddie Lewis' was a great strike, I don't think any of the goals had the degree of difficulty that Wolyniec's had.

  1. I will give no break.

If you’re telling me you don’t feel more pressure when a ball rolls out to you on the top of the box in stoppage time than you do while still in regulation, then you have also not played a lot of soccer.

Quaranta was just trying to play a dangerous ball into the box. I’m not saying it wasn’t meant to be a shot but I’m sure he figured why not have a go and see where it bounces.

The Lewis goal was an ice cold equalizer. No respect for the G’s…what’s new?

  2. There were a lot of good goals this week. How could anyone tell from that camera angle if Rocha was onside or not? Anyways, I voted for Woly because the goal was a bit unusual for MLS. There are a lot of good long distance strikes.

  3. More clutch because of 91st minute vs. 85th? Give me a break. That said, they were both great goals and while I voted for Woly’s for the control and ball skill it required, I don’t think it’s a travesty that Lewis is winning.

the Lewis goal looks cool but John’s goal was better to me took more skill and poise.

  5. “Well, Wolff knocked the ball down and forward with his arm after Seitz deflected it (watch the video and explain how the ball changed direction mid-air before you comment, KC fans), so this “goal” does not belong on this list. ”

if this were true you would think the defender would be going crazy, but the only complaint was Beckerman complaining about offside (Wolff was in his own end when the ball was kicked). It went off his knee, go to the indivdual goal link on MLSNET, the second angle is clear… Sorry your team lost, 2-0….

  6. ”Anyone can kick a straight ball low from 30 yards out and pray it goes in.”

    kpugs, are you serious?!

have you ever played the game before? striking a ball like those two is incredibly difficult. add to that the fact that they both tucked themselves right inside the posts and they both deserve gotw.

I vote Lewis bc his was more clutch (91st min vs 85th), he hit it harder & bc I don’t think there was anything the Columbus goalie could do about it even if he had had a perfect line of sight. Judging by the desperate and very late attempt at a leg save, Thornton didn’t see it until it was past him.

  7. I voted for Quaranta, but I would like to change and re-vote for Rocha, not because of any reassessment of their respective efforts. No, in fact, its just impossible for me to lend support to anything narrated by Max Bretos of FSN.

  9. I witnessed three of these goals in person (Galaxy and Chivas games) and I voted for the Wolyniec goal. On a big screen it shows the detail better and his goal was absolutely amazing. All of the goals were great, but Wolyniec’s footwork made his the best.

  10. Both Eddie and Woly had sweet goals. Obviously, the announcer gets a partial assist on Eddie’s goal.

Any, I voted for the older looking of the two.

  11. wolyniec’s was truly world class… under pressure, down a man, 89th minute, down a goal. wow. lewis’s was sick also. very alert.

  12. I would have voted for Eddie if he didn’t dye his hair that blondish brown color..

Woly’s hair, on the other hand, makes every goal that much sweeter.

  13. I’m torn. Rocha was brilliant and a great touch. Quaranta was a bullet through traffic and a critical goal, Woly probably should get it cause he never will again, but you gotta go with the Lewis volley, that was sick.

  14. I voted for Eddie.

Emilio is getting teh short end of these vote sin my opinion. Better than Quaranta’s of the two DC goals and harder than Wolyniec’s.

Wolf shouldn’t even be nominated. Go away Wizard fans.

  15. i’m liking eddie’s myself- reminds me of the great shot he hit against Mexico in Azteca, though this one was just a laser.

  16. I personally feel that Emilio’s in terms of “degree of difficulty” is the hardest. He is closely marked (and the marker stays with him), he has to do it only by a first touch, he’s far enough away from goal that only a good, well-placed ball is going in, it was a fine pass to him in the first place, and his timing has to be superb. And then he knocks it in off the far post. I think that if you asked players to duplicate those goals (with defenders doing all of the same things), Emilio’s would be the least likely to result in a score again. That said, I didn’t vote for Emilio’s goal.

I suspect Lewis will win because it’s his birthday. And frankly, I gave a lot of consideration to voting for Wolyniec partially because of who he is plus his was the only goal that really involved a series of individual moves in traffic.

But in the end I voted for Quaranta. I think his shot was more difficult than Lewis’ but the larger factor in my mind was that it came against the league’s best team and best defense (Chivas) with a terrific comeback in the only match this season where Chivas has gone down like that and on the road to-boot. And most (but not all) of those same factors apply to Wolyniec as well (closing minutes of the match, against a strong defensive team) so in my mind Wolyniec’s goal was a very close second to Quaranta’s.

  17. OK, lol, that video doesn’t have the side view, but the one on mlsnet does. The RB of Seattle is way behind the rest of the line, running back up.

  18. For all those people saying Rocha’s goal was way offsides a couple days ago-

Please watch the video and notice how insanely onsides he actually is.

And my vote is for the old man and happy bday song.

  19. And I forgot to mention the fact that Eddie Lewis had to play for an entire season for Derby County. Hell, RBNY could beat Derby 3 out of 4. Another reason to give Eddie GOTW.

  20. Allow me to flex my bias. The two longball goals look awesome. But Woly had to settle the ball with his chest, turn around and guide the ball tot he turf and then finish with his left, in traffic.

The two longballs were lucky to get through at all! Ugh.

Very nice goals, just disappointing that Woly’s goal is already being overwhelmed when it took far, far more skill and was much more difficult. Anyone can kick a straight ball low from 30 yards out and pray it goes in.

  21. My vote was heavily influenced by the Happy Birthday song. Hell, I just voted for the announcer, really. Probably Woly should have gotten my vote.

  22. I voted Eddie Lewis because of how much his was just a rocket that hovered right off the ground. I personally thought Quaranta’s was just as close, but thought Eddie just struck his better.

Really surprised Quaranta’s didn’t get more votes. Definitely thought Wolyniec was 3rd and deserved a lot of votes.

  23. over under on how many times Wolff is up for GOTW and doesnt get it? im saying 12 this season and you can write it in pen he will never win it; at the point Davy Arnaud didnt win it in week 1 (both should have) its safe to say its going to be impossible for a Wizards player to win it.

  24. “Degree of difficulty????”” Are we judging the olympic diving competition? (hushed TV voice: “Wolyniec will now attempt a forward fold from a pike position with a quadruple twist.”) I wonder what the East German Judge will score it?

Come on, Ives. Ediie Lewis is like 73 years old. The fact that he scored without needing a teflon hip replacement merits goal of the week.

  25. I liked Wolff’s 2nd one better because Harringtons cross was pinpoint perfect. His touch off his his chest was nice though…

Im going with Wolyniec, i just like it for some reason
