European Spotlight: Edin Dzeko

If you were wondering where AC Milan might spend some of the money just secured from the sale of Kaka, look no further than Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko.

Haven't heard of Dzeko (pronounced Jeh-ko)? If you don't follow the German Bundesliga then it might have been easy to miss the dream season he just enjoyed with Bundesliga champions VFL Wolfsburg. Dzeko scored 26 goals, combining with Brazilian striker Grafite to form one of the best forward tandems in Europe. His combination of size, skill and finishing ability has drawn comparisons to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Just 23, Dzeko was at the top of Arsenal's wish list heading into this summer, but now that Milan has him in its sights with some transfer funds to spend, Dzeko could be lighting up Serie A next season.

Haven't seen Dzeko play. Whether you have or haven't, enjoy some of video Dzeko's goals after the jump:

What do you think of Dzeko? See him succeeding at AC Milan, or are you hoping he joins Arsenal? Think he has any chance of staying with Wolfsburg?

  1. Having the Goal show allowed me to watch some of both Dzeko and Ibesevic’s great performances.

Bosnia certainly looks dangerous up front.

  2. wow! sure you can score on the bottom of the barrel teams, that ain’t nuthin, but seeing a player score on a big team like Bayern is a site to see! makes me wish i watched more Bundesliga on GolTV

and yes, i agree with CBR’s comment above on EPL snobs… I was floored at how Chelsea played vs. Barcelona in game 1 … still can’t believe it – totally changed my perception of the EPL as #1

  4. I hope he stays in Germany. That’d be a big loss for the Bundesliga and I’d hope that the little parity there is still remains between each of the elite european leagues.

  5. As a Wolfsburg fan I want to see him stay, however that may not be possible, especially considering that it’s his dream to play in Italy.

  6. grafite to arsenal would be a better fit assuming that adebayor is leaving..either him or josue in the center midfield with fabregas would be terrific

  7. I don’t know if this means anything, but I vaguely remember him saying that he is going to stay for wolfsburg for another year.

  8. Whether it’s a delicate touch, a cutting pass, or a thunderous, bending shot, Dzeko has that moment of brilliance that top clubs drool over. The way he operates makes the hardest of plays look simple. Dzeko just gets it. His skills are smooth but his brain is a step above others around him. Grafite was an amazing strike partne for Dzeko. However, Pato (assuming he stays) might be an upgrade, though he is a different player than Grafite. Some people are going to call me crazy but I think Dzeko is better than Kaka. I love Kaka, think he’s a wonderful player, but I give a slight edge to Dzeko. He certainly impressed me more than Kaka this season.

  9. i hope he stays at wolfsburg and that they can keep that team intact even though they lost their manager. they were playing some of the best football outside of barca last year. would be fun to see how they would do next season in europe if they can keep their roster together.

  10. Does he love to hit the upper 90 or what? Great ability to spot the shot, and put the ball exactly where it needs to go.
