Red Bulls at New England Revolution: Your Running Commentary

Red_bulls_logoNE Revs

The New York Red Bulls are in Gillette Stadium today to take on the New England Revolution (6pm, MSG) in what has to be considered a must-win game if the Red Bulls are to try and keep their faint playoff hopes alive.

Yes, it is only June 7th, but the Red Bulls are losing more and more ground in the Eastern Conference standings and a loss to the Revs today will bury New York even deeper in the basement.

New England is coming off a comeback victory against D.C. United that came, at least in part, with the help of Major League Soccer's trademark shaky officiating. That doesn't mean the Revs aren't playing better, and the return of Taylor Twellman has New England ready to make a run up the standings.

If you will be watching today's match please feel free to share your own thoughts, opinions and play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action.

  1. For the guy obsessing over the 1st half injury time, a minute should *not* be a minute when one team is clearly killing it off with cynical time-wasting. At one point late in that half, one of the bulls took a full 20 seconds to amble over to the sideline to pick up the ball and throw it in. Conway was killing time from the opening whistle.

  2. We Dallas fans are well aware of the less than ideal location of the stadium, but the whole complaining thing is dumb. The FACT is, without Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, there wouldn’t be an FC Dallas.

Which is a shame…because a team with that attendance would likely get moved if it didn’t have a stadium.

  3. you cant fire Benedict Osorio!!

He is a great evaluator of South American talent

…..Oh wait the only player he brought worth a damn was Wilman Conde!!!

  4. Frisco is North of Dallas proper, and east of DFW airport. It isn’t a wonderfully central location, but it also isn’t in the “boonies”. 10 years ago, yes, that was the boonies, but not anymore, heh.

And as bad as attendance is right now, it’s not a historical thing, whether you like it or not.

  5. They couldn’t give Bruce Arena more of a chance? Really? They couldn’t wait any longer?

Just who is it that JCO knows REALLY WELL in the NYRB organization? Either JCO has friends in high places or NYRB has just decided it’s pointless to even bother anymore. In which case, they need to sell the team.

Bad news for a lot of you NYRB fans who I have seen debating whether San Jose or Dallas is the worst team in MLS. The answer to that question is: neither one. NYRB are the worst team in MLS, and have proven it conclusively. Don’t expect much to change while JCO is still coach.

“That’s sort of like saying “Richards will be great if only he knew how to play soccer.” ”

Well, that’s what i meant, lol.

  7. I was talking to my cousin who lives in Dallas and has been to games, and I was asking him about the FC Dallas stadium location. From his point of view, most of Dallas is spread out into suburbs and the location is actually pretty central to where the fans are. Similar to the defense I’ve heard from St. Louis people for their proposed suburban stadium. Don’t know if it’s true or not

  8. Dude, no amount of anything is going to help Dallas. You have a terrible stadium location, everyone but Dallas fans already know this. Dont pull an El Jefe.

  9. Eaashley79,

The real problem is who wants to go to the boonies to watch a pathetic soccer game. I live in Dallas and I hate the drive up there. I will be there Saturday to watch the Dynamo destroy them and I will sit with the Texian Army in section 119.

  10. I am a red bulls seaon ticket holder…They stink, they REALLY STINK. Just got my Red Bull Arena pack this week. They want a deposit to secure your seats in red Bull arena. they WANT money to secure a seat. Thats what I said, MONEY to secure a seat so I wont be left out in the cold. I pay for this crap now, boy am I excited to plan out my future seats. Do I spend the extra dollars to see them get spanked up close, or do I save a bit and sit far away? Is it any less painless from the 2nd level?. If I stay in the parking lot and only have to listen to the desperation from a distance, does that make it less painless? Perhaps the TV, or better yet the TV on mute, yeh thats it, the TV on mute, with my eyes closed…

    DO SOMETHING RED BULLS—–SOON!!!

  11. BTW – Dallas’ attendance was actually listed at 5,724, which is still pathetic. The problem in Dallas is the placement of the television cameras. For those of you that have never been to Pizza Hut Park, the West stands, for the most part, are typically pretty full, while the East stands (directly in the Texas sun) are always nearly empty. With the cameras facing the East stands, you get the impression that no one is at the game. To fix the problem, they need to (1) market the team better and (2) if possible, move the cameras to make it look like a full house. I tend to think that if it looks like more people are at the game, more people will want to actually attend the game.

  12. The laugh is that I was looking over my Red Bull Arena Relocation Guide as I watched the game today, all the while asking myself would I spend $1200 on a refrigerator that never got cold?

  13. Here is the laugh,…who is going to fire JCO? Eric Stover? He is not a soccer guy,…here is there to build the stadium. Who is going to fire JCO? Jeff Agoos? LOL!!!

This organization is so screwed up it is not even funny. It is beyond repair.

  14. Hey Joe W you are right on the $$ Huge problem that JCO has is micro manging every move He has “some” talent but is clueless how to let the team jel as a team I too like Nichol’s approach and coaching Even after losing 6-0 NE kept it all together and look strong and well balnced. A last thought I would like to see John Haarkes and Ritchie Williams ever listened to him commentate he is also right on the $$

  15. Season all But Over.. BYE BYE JCO!

Ok guys enough is enough Sure JCO took the Red Bulls further than anyone UP last season ( I think he got lucky) but he is also guilty of taking Red Bulls DOWN further than anyone. Time to say See ye!? Let Richie Williams try. He is a decent coach. Fire Agoos as well He can’t see talent if it kicked him in the ass. Look at Brunner playing well at Columbus. Why did we pass on Johnny X for Odaro who is pathetic and oh yeah we cut him anyway.

Finally sit/rest Angel and Richards until they both find their game Let Woly play with Kanchi up front. Let Zimmerman play more Teach him how to play D tho.!!

Go get a real strong D(like Soumare) to play in front of Goldy Petke Hall and Mendes. Drop Rojas, Petroredcard and get another attacking playmaker alongside Celedes. Since we lost Guavera we don’t have a real # 10

Enough said maybe next season..in our new home use the 2nd DP card then.. but this one ..ahh not so much!

  16. I feel bad for NYRB. You have a front office that is commited. (insert counter argument here)

Dallas on the other hand can fold for all I care. Official attendance for todays game? 2,461

  17. Well, NE, frankly, is not a very good team this year. They’re well coached, Shalrie Joseph is no worse than one of the 3-5 best players in MLS but they’re not one of the best teams in the league. To lose to them 4-0 is, telling. Furthermore, with a series of road games coming up it’s not just a terrible start but really sets the team up for a disaster. I really can’t imagine how the team ownership and “braintrust” can continue to keep JCO at this point.

  18. their is no way Kassel could be worse than Sassano or Exantus worse than Richards or Oduro… then bring in Duka for some midifeld creativity and Salmon so we can actually have a defender that knows what they’re doing on the field

  19. Now Shep Messing mentions having to keep the locker room together. I bet they’ll be pretty unified, against their coach.

  20. Now they’ll keep Angel in there so they have an excuse for him not scoring in their next game …. bad back …. tired ……

  21. There’s nothing like being the worst team in the league the year before moving into a new stadium to boost ticket sales…

  22. Bring in Duka,Xantus,Kassel – and get rid of the dead weight, trade the veterans and lets finally do this properley, build a team that grows together , then bring in a few Angels to put you over the top!

  23. Hey a bright spot.. Zimmerman does some good work getting free from 3 guys and crossing into Angel… who give a weak shot rolling to the keeper.
