World Cup Qualifying: CONCACAF Rewind

With the United States and Costa Rica having already reached the half-way point in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, it was the bottom four teams of the table that were left to fight it out in a pair of close qualifiers Wednesday night.

Mexico's qualifying campaign got a much needed lift as El Tri defeated Trinidad and Tobago in the friendly confines of Estadio Azteca, 2-1. Honduras also jumped up the table as they grabbed three points with their 1-0 win over visitors El Salvador.

Mexico got off to a fast start as A first-minute goal from Guillermo Franco gave the home team an early lead before being negated by a Hayden Tinto strike. Oscar Rojas came to the rescue as he netted the game winner from long range early in the second half. The victory helped Mexico climb to fourth place while Trinidad and Tobago remain in the basement of the standings.

Honduras rebounded from its loss to the United States with a sorely-needed victory. The lone goal came from Carlos Pavon in the 14th minute, which was enough for Honduras to reach third place - just three points behind the United States - while El Salvador dropped to fifth.

The next round of CONCACAF qualifiers take place on August 12, when Trinidad and Tobago battles El Salvador, first-place Costa Rica travels to Honduras and Mexico hosts arch-rival United States.

What did you think of last night's games? Happy to see Mexico bounce back? Think El Salvador is not as good as advertised?
