The Chicago Red Stars return to Women's Professional Soccer this Wednesday against the L.A. Sol in the first WPS midweek match-up of the season.
The webcast for this contest, available on the WPS website, begins at 7:25 with a quick, five minute pregame show before the 7:30 kickoff. A team of Nick Ammazzalorso (L.A. Sol Director of Media Relations) and Aaron Heifetz (Press Officer to the U.S. Women's Team) will serve as the voices behind the live webcast from the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.
Statistically speaking, The L.A. Sol has quite the upper-hand in this one. Chicago approaches the game after losing its last three games and with no goals in its most recent 306 minutes of play. The Sol, on the other hand, has finished five goals in its past three games with shutout vicotories in each of those contests.
L.A. has held steady as the number one team in WPS while Chicago has slowly fallen from number two down to the sixth out of seven. The Sol's Marta has also been very quiet over the past few weeks, but Shannon Boxx, Han Duan, and Aya Miyama have all stepped-up to create big plays. For Chicago, the unimpressive Carli Lloyd is out with an injury, but the Chicago club should have no problem putting on a great performance with some confident possession play.
This match is a chance for the Red Stars to get back on track and to pit its best players against some of the more highly regarded ones in the league. Anything can happen as Chicago strives to better both its record and its reputation, but the Sol still has the advantage in confidence, consistency, and ability to finish games.
