In case you haven't already heard it, I made a guest appearance on the ESPN Soccer Podcast, the U.S. Soccer Show, today.

Jen Chang, David Mosse and I discuss all things American soccer, from the Gold Cup, to the MLS title race, to the transfer rumor mill (and Landon Donovan's future). Give it a listen and feel free to share your own thoughts on the topics covered, and my opinions, in the comments section below.

Enjoy the show.

  1. I definitely enjoyed the podcast. I never heard of a whole 35 minutes worth of American soccer so I really liked it. I hope you do it again because I will definitely listen.

  2. I like the US soccer podcast, but you can tell they don’t have a radio guy hosting.

It’s better than having the dudes in London try and force a comment on MLS or USMNT (or completely fail to mention the only key WC qualifier played that week, i.e. US v. Mexico in February)

  3. I’m kinda liking Cooper. I wish he’d play his size, but he plays like Adu in the forward spot except Coop has a nose for the goal. He plays like he’s 5’3″, keeping everything low and not trying to play in the air.

No WAY he goes to SA, though.

You were quoted by Ives on the podcast this morning.
    Props.

  4. Thanks for the heads-up. I’ll go listen to it. I hope ESPN will do an American focused soccer show. Just one hour of the week, is that too much to ask for!?!? Kind of like when GOL TV had the weekly 1 hour show “American Soccer”. I was sad to see it go 🙁

  5. Man, I don’t know why I listed to that show.

    Ugh.

Most disappointing segment, in the MLS Cup chase segment. Not one of the three of you even mentions the defending champs?

Really? Houston obviously has been the class of the league, and they get Ching and Holden back. Seattle, LA, Chicago, and DC also deserve mention. Heck, even TFC gots a shout as the dark horse.

But no mention of the champs? None. Despite going winless in 7 to start and now being only a point out of first. Despite having the longest home unbeaten streak in MLS history. Despite missing Marshall and Rogers for the Gold Cup. And Hejduk for long stretches. And Hesmer for long stretches. And now Moreno and GBS. Yet still there they sit. On the verge of getting healthy (GBS, Ale, Moffat, Marshall, Rogers) and with some money and two open roster spots, reinforcements will be coming.

  6. well done again, ives. you more than hold your own with those guys.

however, am i the only person that thinks the US should actually be the underdog on sunday?

  7. Anyone catch Jimmy’s tweet about hoping Mexico’s coach doesn’t try and kick him while he walks past him on the plane? Funny stuff, too bad he took it off.

  8. ESPN Soccernet (and it’s US Soccer add-on) and The Guardian’s Football weekly (not in season now) are pretty good. I download WSD but don’t always listen to it (this week’s interview with Wahl(?), the author of the Beckham Experiment was good).

But we need a really good weekly podcast looking at US Soccer, MLS, Yanks abroad, the USMNT. The US Soccer show add-on from ESPNSoccernet is just not that show.

I suppose you can’t do it yourself, can you Ives? Is there a no compete clause in the work you do for ESPN?

  10. Ives, I think you hit on one of the things I think no one talks about regarding MLS not letting Donovan go. I’m not saying the Galaxy should let him go for free, but they should try to work with him at least a little if he does want to go.

  11. How do I find this on iTUNES so I can actually put it on my iPOD? I have searched for ESPN soccer and US Soccer and it doesn’t seem to come up.

  12. Not a big fan of podcasts, don’t get the obsession (Sportsguy is obsessed). But for Ives Galarcep I will make an exception!
