MLS Week 16 Rewind

It didn't take Alecko Eskandarian long to make an impact with his new club.

The well-traveled striker scored a goal in his first match with the LA Galaxy and it proved to be the game winner in a 1-0 LA victory against New England. The victory moved the Galaxy into a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference at the halfway point.

The LA win was just one of three posted by the Western Conference in four inter-conference match-ups. Here is a rundown of the MLS action on Saturday:

What did you think of Saturday's action? Impressed by Chicago's win in Colorado? Surprises by the Galaxy's success this season? Starting to believe that FC Dallas can make a run?

  1. What on God’s green earth is it going to take for the Red Bull Management to pull the trigger??!!
What is it with this team? & why is it being run like a comedy show? these guys can’t win for losing..jeeeez Angel deserves much better than this.
It is quite obvious that last year was an aberration, The Bulls got lucky & the hopes that it would carry over into this season were fruitless.
I just don’t understand the fanbase….(is there a fanbase for the Bulls?) I see action whatsoever form any side, it’s really frustrating to see how this team has become the Clippers of the MLS in a Major market.
It is a sorry @$$ state of affairs for the NY RB

  2. I was very surprised at the play in the DCU-Columbus match. Both sides were missing a few key players due to callups (Columbus: Marshall and Rogers, DCU: Jakovic and Quaranta). But DCU was also missing Moreno, Emilio and Fred was gimpy (hasn’t played in a while due to injury and could give 90 minutes). And yet they were clearly the better team, had far more of the play, far more chances. And on the road. Against a Columbus team that (with some recent hickups by Houston) was probably the hottest team in MLS. If you watched the game, I think you probably wouldn’t have seen a Columbus team (whether due to their mishaps or DCU’s play) looked the worst they have in probably 15 games.

  4. Considering that the Galaxy have won twice without their best player, I think you need to give them some credit.

  5. You guys do realize DC United and LA have the same record with the exception being the Galaxy has one less win (and coincidentally one game in hand).

  6. Eskandarian’s goal aside, it was pretty unconvincing win for the Galaxy against a depleted Revs side. But hey, I’ll take it.
