If you were beginning to worry about being able to see the USA-Mexico World Cup qualifier on August 12th in English, it appears your fears are about to subside.

NBC Universal, parent company of Telemundo, is offering all cable and satellite providers free access to Mun2, the channel set to show the USA-match at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The free access will be for the day of the match.

If your cable/satellite provider still won't be offering Mun2, you can still get the English-language feed to the game on Telemundo using the SAP function.

Here are some other stories from Monday that we may have missed:

Beckham helps fan get Home Depot ban lifted

The LA Galaxy fan who was banned from Home Depot Center for life after coming out of the stands to confront David Beckham has had his ban lifted.

The unidentified fan had his ban lifted with some help from Beckham, who lobbied for the ba to be lifted.

Ibrahimovic introduced by Barcelona

Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic was introduced as Barcelona's latest signing on Monday, after passing a physical.

The deal completes a mega-trade that sent Samuel Eto'o to Inter Milan.

What do you think of the above stories? Relieved to know you'll probably be able to watch USA-Mexico in English? Happy to see the Galaxy fan's ban lifted for his run-in with Beckham? Think Ibrahimovic will make the European champions even more dangerous?

  1. Comcast does have Mun2 to those who didn’t realize. Not sure if it’s on the basic channels or part of one of their shitty packages.

  2. the mun2 is great. but airing the game on NBC or USA would’ve been better. but im happy mun2 will be unlocked on my cable box for this game.

  4. I HATE NBC this is a disgrace to offer a free day of a channel only a small portion of the population even has. Shame on you NBC.

  5. Time Warner doesn’t offer either Telemundo or mun2 in Ohio so I’ll still be sitting at my computer trying to find a way to watch.

If you live in Columbus and have digital cable look in the 800s Mun2 is there now.

  6. i, too, would enjoy it is they played FMF games on Mun2 in English. don’t get me wrong, i don’t mind watching in spanish, but my spanish…well, it isn’t all that great. haha

  7. So someone at MUN2 took my advice – see the first thread regarding the English Broadcast issue. So, I’ll take full credit for all of you to be able to watch this match with English commentary.

    :O)

  8. @thedoc: If I recall correctly, they are showing reruns of House or NCIS marathons on at least one of those channels that day. They don’t want to lose those rating$.

It’s that simple. They want to push more of their other, lesser known product.

  9. 1.) I had to listen to a Mexican co-worker ride my ass all day yesterday after the 5-0 slapdown.

I know that we had a B minus team on the field…but I thought they shouldve played WAY better. Giving up 5 in the second half proves why they arent ready to start on the MNT, although it was a good performance getting to the final to begin with.

2.) Beckham did the right thing helping the fan get the ban taken care of. The fan was stupid, of course, but fans are allowed to be stupid. World Class Athletes are not, and this is Beckahms way of showing that he too had alot of responisbility in the situation.

3.) Ibra sucks. Although he will do fine in Barca when they play Malaga and Sociedad and those likes. Just dont count on him to show up against Madrid.

But it was funny to read how he blasted Italy on his way out. I really hope Barca gets to go to Italy during the CL this year.

4)On a side note, went to the WFC Inter/Milan game. Very fun time, was able to hang and mingle with fans of the sport wearing all different shirts supporting all different countries and clubs.

  10. Beckham was out of order in calling the guy to the field so he gets almost zippy points for helping to “fix it”. Had his ego not been bruised so easily he could have avoided the whole thing–the particular incident would have never happened.

How a guy can have gone through so much on a much bigger stage and then allowed some criticism to get to him, I just can’t fully process…

  11. Thanks goodness that the “English-lanuguage/availabilty” problem has been resolved. Good for mun2. Good for NBC. Good for more fans who were not going to be able to get the game in English becaue they didn’t have mun2 or weren’t even aware that they have the channel.

  12. nbc should be playing the game on bravo or USA network. its is a wednesday afternoon when they have nothing but reruns on. its a national game. it should be brodcast nationally. very few cable companies carry telemundo or mun2. what a disgrace

  13. These are some suprisingly refreshing news bits to start the Tuesday morning.

I’m glad to see mun2 is available to everyone, at least for the day of the game. It’s also some free marketing for the channel no one knew existed a few weeks ago.

As for the Beckham lobbying, I’m glad to see it. If it wasn’t for him calling the man down from the stands to begin with, it never would have happened. The fan is still a idiot for running down there, and Beckham still was unprofessional for doing it, but hopefully things will turn out good for everyone involved.

  14. I’ll still DVR the game on Telemundo, because I’d rather watch in HD in Spanish than watch in English without HD.

Actually prolly just depends on where you are. I have Comcast and I get mun2. It’s way back in the 700’s by GolTV

  18. Yeah, I think he read it and understood it just fine.

But anyway, good on NBC and Becks. Getting mun2 on every cable and dish service for a day with a lot of publicity is a great move by NBC. And Becks had to do this, clearly.

  19. I agree with the above, the gametime probably had something to do with ESPN not shelling out the money for this game.

No mun2 for me, thanks NBC!

  20. Well now it’s in your cable providers hands. I see Mun2 on my channel guide, but don’t get it (I have time warner cable). Hopefully it will come in that day…in HD.

  21. Hey Annen Berg, What’s with the shot against Baptists? Any other religions don’t meet with your sophisticated approval? Oh I get it, conservative religious types are too dumb to appreciate the beautiful game, Typical arrogance.

  22. “After that, I’m postive he will then commit 100% to the galaxy.”

Great…3 years into his contract. He already made a commitment to the Galaxy and has broken it. While I understand why he wants to play in Europe, he’s handled this very poorly.

  23. I would assume that this is probably good news for DirectTV subscribers?

I am guessing ESPN probably wasn’t willing to pay whatever astronomical fee TM was offering because of the game time. If it were a prime time game, it might be a different story.

  24. I am confused as to why ESPN wouldn’t pony up the bucks to show the game. I understand Telemundo was demanding a pretty absurd price, but ESPN is going to be having a live sportscenter during the match where they will be talking about the match the entire time….excuse me, what?

ANYONE IN DC AREA WITH COMCAST OR DIRECTV KNOW WHAT CHANNEL mun2 is???????????

If true, I’m watching the game in any other language that’s on.

  26. Metro Boy – Who hates Beckham because he wants to play in the World Cup? Is this what you think people are angry about?

And what do you mean by the following

“what people fail to understand is that Before he decided to “commit” to the galaxy, no one told him 1. He still had a chance to play for England and 2. Playing in the MLS instead of Europe would affect his chances.”

EVERYONE understands this. It has been stated countless times in the media and on soccer message boards.

  28. That’s nice of beckham to help get his ban lifted. I’m not a beckham hater n not sure y so many people do hate him. If Landon Donovan was in his shoes n bob Bradley tells him that the only way he will b able to b in the roster for the WC is to go over to Europe I’m sure no one would b mad at him, especially considering the fact that this will be his last WC. I think what people fail to understand is that Before he decided to “commit” to the galaxy, no one told him 1. He still had a chance to play for England and 2. Playing in the MLS instead of Europe would affect his chances. ANY Soccer player giving the oppurtinity to play for there national team will do ANYTHING to be in that roster, it’s one of the greatest acheivments as a soccer player. To fault , blame , hate , beckham because of what he is trying to get a spot in the England NAT. Team roster is pretty low. Especially the people who are just treating him bad, he wants MLS to grow, there is no doubt about that, if he didn’t care he would have just left. He don’t need the money from MLS. Yes I’m sure most of ya read the beckham experiment which I thought was a horrible book btw cuz it shows how bad the mls treats there players n if I was a player from Europe, why would I want to come here n be treated the way that it shows. The book acuattly might just scare most of them lol. But back to beckham, I think people need to chill n realize he just trying to get back in the roster for he can b in his final WC. After that, I’m postive he will then commit 100% to the galaxy. Question, if he played for the USMNT, would u guys who hate him now still hate him if it was the same sceaniro?

  30. Glad to see the fan reinstated, but sick of Becks still insisting to the press that he was only trying to shake his hand. Get real.
