While we wait for the complete roster for the U.S. national team's upcoming World Cup qualifiers to be released (it's being released in pieces on USSoccer.com), here is a rather unique interview with U.S. national team star Landon Donovan (courtesy ofSBI reader Michael Peters).
No, it's not really insightful, but it's a bit funny and is something to help us get through the day
Enjoy:
Now I know why Bianca left him!!!
I can’t wait for Jozy to start being the face of American soccer, because he interviews much more easily than Landon could even try. Watching Landon be the ‘identifiable spokesperson’ for soccer in the US really makes me want to crawl out of my skin at times.
I was in 7th grade when I was visiting family down in Florida. I was getting bored so I headed inside to watch T.V. Since my aunt is old, she only had basic cable. I turn on ABC (I think it was ABC) and what’s on? 2001 MLS All-Star game. After watching for a couple minutes, what happens? A bleach blonde hairded kid scores a goal and takes off his shirt to reveal a sports bra. I laughed my ass off for the rest of the game. Before that moment I hadn’t given soccer the time of day. Needless to say I owe my love for the sport to Landon and his Brandi Chastain tribute.
Melman does stuff like this. It is supposed to be comedy. That said.. it was aight for what it was.
landon ain’t too smooth

I don’t see FIFA doing anything to help any country’s NT more than another so don’t hold your breath.
MTV? Why would they give an ‘f’ about the USMNT? I mean it’d be great if they did, but c’mon they have no incentive. The game is THAT popular yet.
ESPN? Now THEY should give more of an ‘f’ about the USMNT since they broadcast their games and such but they continually seem to be in the ‘I just can’t be bothered with that’ camp. Which is sad. A bit more of a push by ESPN could do wonders.
Ultimately though, the best advertisement would be a successful WC2010. Look at how many non-soccer people got to talking about the team during the Confederation Cup especially when we beat Spain. If the USMNT makes it to the quarters or semis it’ll go a LOOOOONG way towards growing the game.
