CONCACAF Champions League: Your Running Commentary

CONCACAFChampionsLeagueLogo

It's do-or-die time for MLS clubs DC United and Toronto FC as both head into their CONCACAF Champions League second-leg match-ups needing wins (or in D.C. United's case, at least a multiple-goal draw) to advance to the tournament's group stage.

Toronto FC faces the Puerto Rico Islanders at 8pm, while DC United plays Luis Angel Firpo at 10pm. Both matches are being shown on Fox Soccer Channel.

Those aren't the only Champions League matches on tap tonight. Pachuca faces Deportivo Jalapa in the second leg of their series (10pm, Galavision) after the Mexican power won the first leg, 3-0.

If you will be watching tonight's matches, please feel free to share your own thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

  1. “The Firpo keeper looked like he could go 100 shots without saving a PK.”

BOTH keepers looked like they weren’t about to save one. Wicks seemed really slow to start on at least one that IMO he should have saved. DCU is fortunate that Firpo missed first…but actually DCU seemed to take better PKs…except number 4 (Bursch?).

  2. @froboy…i think its an easy answer…mls and ccl come first…that game is for people to see real moreso than dc anyway

  3. big win for DC and the MLS, now the “real” question, who to play against them, hard to put out the first team when they need rest, hard to put the back ups in against Real Madrid

  4. I guarantee Pontius will be one of the pk takers along with those three. Not sure who the last would be. My guess would be Burch.

  5. Cap Rodney Wallace. I’ve seen him play a few times and he’s a lot better than Pearce, Bornstein.

I’m kinda hoping Wallace doesn’t get capped any time soon as he still only holds Costa Rican citizenship and not American…

  6. “If you are OK with our top fight players average salary being under 50K than more power to you. I disagree.”

No one is OK with that, probably why your statement isn’t true. 120,000$ last year counting DPs, but also counting 10 Developmentals per club in the 12.5/17.7 group.

  7. Buck stops with Garber. He is the CEO. He gets the blame. If you want to give him credit for the success you need to give him credit for the failures…like MLS’ dismal record outside the league. Not blaming him for TFC incompetence but I there is not CLEAR separation between the two leagues. That much is obvious. If you are OK with our top fight players average salary being under 50K than more power to you. I disagree.

  8. Considering Garber has ZERO control of what the cap is in MLS, it’s a bit silly to blame him for it. And ignorant as well.

  9. that was an illegal pk, right?

i don’t know for certain.. but i dont think you can stop your momentum like that, then kick

and wicks didnt exactly argue his case well .. they did cut screen so maybe they got after the ref … but lame on wicks for not breaking refs balls
