CONCACAF: Houston wins at home, Pachuca defeated in Panama

CONCACAF CL

It wasn't easy, but thanks to a Brian Ching goal in the 68th minute the Dynamo were able to get their CONCACAF Champions League off to a strong start with a 1-0 win over Isidro Metapan. The club from El Salvador were content to bunker in and let Houston dominate possession, frustrating them for the first half. Ching's second half goal was enough to prove the difference.

In the other game from Houston's group, Jose Francisco Torres went 90 minutes in Pachuca's 4-1 loss at the hands of Arabe Unido. Reports indicate that Pachuca rested several regulars and paid the price for it. That result means Houston sits second in Group A behind the Panamanian club.

Christian Riveros and Joel Huiqui scored for Cruz Azul as they beat Saprissa 2-0, in the other game in Group C.

How do you think MLS has done so far? Happy to see Torres play the full 90? Share your thoughts below.

  1. Houston played a mix of players that start and dont start. Neither forward was a normal starter. I am not sure about this since I could not see the game, but I believe I saw a starting line up with Hainult as a Central defender which is definitely not normal. I wouldn’t mind having Tally Hall in goal. He has looked good in goal, not as good as Onstad, but he is definitely a good goalie from what I have seen. The great thing with the Dynamo is their depth, so even a supposed B team can still play pretty well. Kinnear makes sure he gives every player the time they deserve and has proven to be quite experimental.

  3. I don’t know if I’d call that Houston’s B-Team. Onstad, Mullen, Davis, Holden, Hannault, Boswell, Cameron, Ching, and Ashe played. The only thing “B” about it was Oduro and Ade Akiynby.

  4. 2 out of 3 isn’t that bad. The DC United loss was tough but they were away and even though some people on this site believe every team in Central America is crap they played a pretty good Marathon team. Marathon will probably give Toluca a run for their money at least at home- DC just needs to take care of business at home and win in Panama. Was glad to see Houston bring their A team.
