The Post-Osorio era begins today at Giants Stadium as the New York Red Bulls take on FC Dallas in the first match since Juan Carlos Osorio's resignation as head coach.
The Red Bulls' season is over, while FC Dallas isn't too far from being over, but there are still some good storylines. Interim head coach Richie Williams is in his first game in charge while former Red Bull Dave Van Den Bergh makes his first appearance at Giants Stadium since being traded by the Red Bulls in the off-season.
I will be providing commentary throughout the match so feel free to follow along and, as always, you are welcome to share your own thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
Enjoy the action.
———————-
FINAL– Juan Pablo Angel was the star today, but it was a team effort, and an inspired game by the attack as a group, that helped the team post the win today.
For Dallas, the loss is another reminder that this team still has major flaws and a long way to go to be a good MLS team.
That's all for now. Feel free to share your post-game thoughts in the comments section below.
———————-
FINAL- Red Bulls 3, FC Dallas 2. The Red Bulls snap a 13-match winless streak and gives Richie Williams a win in his first game as interim head coach (this season).
———————-
88th minute- GOAL RED BULLS!!!!!!!!!!! Juan Pablo Angel with his second. Mac Kandji with a long-range blast that forces a Sala save, but Sala can't hold on and Angel pounces to give the Red Bulls the lead.
Angel breaks the club record for regular-season goals scored in a career.
———————-
86th minute– If this result holds, the Red Bulls will go to 14 matches without a win.
———————-
82nd minute– Will we see something from Kandji today?
———————-
81st minute- Dallas corner kick.
———————-
78th minute– Wolyniec and Ubiparipovic come out for Kandji and Rojas.
———————-
75th minute– Mac Kandji and Jorge Rojas are set to come in for New York.
———————-
74th minute– Today's attendance: 9,648.
———————-
73rd minute- GOAL DALLAS!!! And yes, it's Dave Van Den Bergh with a left-footed blast of a goal. Didn't he have to score today?
———————-
71st minute– Eric Avila comes in for Kyle Davies as Dallas adds more creativity to its attack as it tries to take advantage of its man advantage.
———————-
68th minute– Dallas is starting to pile the pressure on.
———————-
66th minute– Leo Krupnick comes in for Albert Celades. A defensive sub, though now we will get to see arguably the worst central defense pairing in MLS history.
———————-
62nd minute– Borman has had a solid day today. Fighting harder than I've seen him all year.
———————-
60th minute– RED CARD to Kevin Goldthwaite. It looks like a punch thrown at Andres Rocha. Rocha was holding Goldthwaite and Goldthwaite reacted by swinging at him (and missing).
———————-
59th minute– Red Bulls corner kick.
———————-
56th minute – SAVE SALA. Great shot by Wolyniec that Sala does well to pounce on for a diving save.
———————-
53rd minute- Dallas corner.
———————-
52nd minute– Nice tackle by Wolyniec on Van Den Bergh draws a yellow card. Wolyniec wasn't reminiscing about last year's playoff run on that one.
———————-
49th minute– Quiet second half so far. In case you missed it, Brek Shea storimed off after being subbed out and slapped away an attempt by Schellas Hyndman for a handshake. Hyndman promptly grabbed him by the arm and sat him down and gave him a brief lecture.
———————-
46th minute– We're back.
———————-
HALFTIME– Every fan who is still here at Giants Stadium deserves a prize, and there are actually a surprising number of fans left.
———————-
HALFTIME– The Red Bulls are organized defensively and being creative offensively. Teams can usually count on a boost from a coaching change but you can see Williams' influence on this team already.
———————-
HALFTIME– Red Bulls 2, FC Dallas 1. Not only have the Red Bulls scored twice, but they even avoided surrendering a late goal before halftime.
———————-
35th minute– Dane Richards is hurt and down. Now he's up.
———————-
32nd minute– The rain has let up and Dallas has started to control possession. The Red Bull midfield is doing a good job of applying defensive pressure, making things tough for Dallas' playmakers.
———————-
28th minute– The passing from Celades today has been top-notch, what the club had hoped he would bring when he signed. Too bad it took him this long to find that touch. Wolyniec is playing with a lot of confidence today.
———————-
27th minute- GOAL RED BULLS!! Dane Richards with the finish on a beautiful build-up and pass from John Wolyniec.
———————-
25th minute– You have to wonder how long before Jeff Cunningham finds a goal of his own against a vulnerable Red Bulls defense.
———————-
21st minute– It is absolutely pouring at the stadium. You have to feel for the fans who came out today.
———————-
19th minute- GOAL FC DALLAS!!! Dax McCarty with a streaking header of a great pass from Jeff Cunningham.
———————-
18th minute– FC Dallas is a very interesting team, with plenty of attacking talent, but a bad defense and perhaps one too many young players.
———————-
14th minute– Red Bulls are definitely hustling today, showing more energy than they have in months.
———————-
11th minute– If you're seeing Brek Shea for the first time you're seeing one of the better prospects in the U.S. national team youth system.
———————-
10th minute– The last time the Red Bulls had a lead? Six games ago against Seattle.
———————-
5th minute– That goal is Angel's 41st regular-season goal for the Red Bulls, tying him with Giovanni Savarese for most in club history.
———————-
4th minute- GOAL R
ED BULLS. Juan Pablo Angel with the finish. Celades with pass.
———————-
3rd minute– Wolyniec with the streaking header wide. Nice ball from Borman.
———————-
2nd minute– Let's see which Red Bulls players step up today in the wake of Osorio's resignation.
———————-
1st Minute– And we're off.
———————-
PRE-GAME– This is Richie Williams second stint as Red Bulls interim head coach. Not a bunch of drastic changes to the Red Bulls lineup today:
—————–Angel——————Wolyniec———————-
———-Ubiparipovic—————————Richards————–
———————–Celades—–Stammler—————————
Borman———-Goldthwaite——–Boyens———————Hall
——————————-Cepero————————————-
Mike Petke is serving a yellow card suspension while Ernst Oebster is in Austria after the birth of his first child.
———————-
I loved what I saw from the Bulls this game. Putting Celades in the middle in front of Stamm made all the difference, not to mention to give Angel not one or two but 3 whole other forwards to help out. And the energy from Dane and Woly alone made all the difference. Good stuff.
My only complaint remains midfielder Ubiparipovic. Should’ve been Rojas there from the start. Ubi brings absolutely nothing to the table. He’ll be gone along with 80 percent of this team for next year. Watch the Bulls go 5-1-1 for the remainding 7 games. Question is, would they keep Richie if they did??
TBE11 – Ziplock Baggie
Wow an win. Interesting….
kpugs,
I didn’t want my new iPhone to get wet. Can you blame me?
Class act DVB just turned and went back to his half after scoring his goal, no real celebration, classy!
Red Bulls win one for the fans. Angels best game of the year.
ne one else think kandji and angel are great tandem forwards and dane richards sucks
anybody else realize that there is a slight resemblance between Wolyneic and Williams?
OMG WE WON A GAMEEEE
Ah man! Finally. The nightmare is over!
And even if DvdB scored in a Dallas jersey, I still want to hug him. Such a class act. I still wish he was with New York.
kpugs, as one of the few in 110 who stayed out during the rain, the 133 chants and stuff could be heard/seen pretty clearly. nice.
Good work I.Coach Richard Williams………
you know soccer and how to talk to your players…
HOPE SOON AGOOS AND STOVER MEET JC OSORIO.
OUT THE RED BULLS 2010.
I like what Ogre Dave wrote and I agree… Today, there was a new found energy and relief Oso was not screaming at them. Angel and Richards haven’t played this good since last year. If the Bulls can win half of their remaining games I say give Richie the gig and bring in a Sporting Director he can work with!
I forgot what that felt like. It was amazing. A big hello to all the pansies who ran away during the rain. Down near the field section 133 made it rock today.
Take aside the fact that this means nothing, and a few hundred people had a killer time today. Awesome job fellow attendees.
Wow. This team still isn’t anywhere close to being good, but it’s pretty clear that Osorio was a HUUUUUUUUUUGE part of the problem. Put these guys in the right formation where they know what to do, and they’ll put on a competent, professional display (Goldy excepted). Night and freakin’ day.
Well, as I said, i did not say they are a liability, i asked if they could become one, and what the league would do to prevent it if it seemed that they were headed in that direction.
I’m hapy to see Angel finding his form again. Would love to see Angel, Kandji, and Woly on the field together. Goldy… well that was just stupid. How can you do that in a game like this! I wish the new coach all the best. To early to say if he should get the job next year but he seems to be good and knows the team and league.
The Redbulls beeing a liability to to MLS? absolutely not. every team goes through things like this. Even top teams in the European leagues go through this. It would be better if there would be a second division below the MLS but I guess that will never happen.
Kandji. In for a few mins but did a lot.
Think about what might have been had Assorio and Agoof been fired three months ago. Other than Goldthwaite, it was night & day …
Good victory for the red bulls.
I am not trying to be an ass, when I said the comment that most other red bull fans feel the same way I do, I meant that they cannot wait to get into the new stadium, without the turf and football lines. As far as the team deserving the stadium comment, that is just my opinion. I believe the red bulls should be playing better, especially since they are getting a stadium. I meant no offense to the team.
My other question was just a hypothetical one. I was curious about what would happen if that became the case, not that it would actually happen. I am sorry if that ticked you off.
It does not matter in the eyes of a ref. The reason is that intention is judged far more harshly than actual acts. That is the reason a player’s reaction can get him booked while the guy creating the original foul can practically go by scott free, or with a lesser punishment. I do not completely agree with these types of calls but that is how it is.
Stop being an ass, blag.
@blag — watching games at Giant’s Stadium is a double-whammy…. not only the NFL lines but also the turf.
You guys think that was worthy of a red card? Rocha had his arm around Goldthwaite’s neck for awhile. The reacting swing didn’t even look like it hit Rocha.
Hey Ives, do you think the Red Bulls team could become a liability to the league, if the fan base is unable to come back. I ask this because with a stadium just built, you cannot just throw out the team. What would the league do in order to prevent that?
Ahahahaha I thought they might actually win a game! Sweet goal.
Even though the current red bulls team does not seem to deserve its new stadium, I cannot wait until they have it. Any match I watch with such distinct football lines is just annoying. Same with any other mls team. I may not be a fan of the red bulls, but i am sure the red bull fans feel the same way about this.
You can see that THIS team plays for it’s coach. I have been spouting this for a long time, the team was not playing for osorio, we will not be the worst team in history… watch….
The players were all saying it( in their play), the team was playing with no heart because they had no leadership, now you see the difference…
at least we can thank osorio for leaving!
good, so it is not just me who gets choppy feed from atdhe and channel surfing.net etc?
It’s not even the final 5 minutes. Back line made an absolute mess of it.
thanks everyone
Bulls score 3 minutes into the Post-Oso era! Try http://www.justin.tv for the feed NYRB fan…
Odds FCD scores in the final 5 minutes?
http://atdhe.net/8688/watch-new-york-red-bulls-vs-fc-dallas
Kinda choppy though, at least for me.
any good feeds to the game?
From the most loyal of FCD fans: this is terrible. Pearce?? I would have rather had Danny Szetela. Dallas just signed a great left back about a week ago.
Gooaall! JPA
