Keller get ready.
Massive performance by Arsenal boy, now they need to be consistent on all games and avoid injuries.
Tight race indeed.
But they really didn’t look happy the other team scored!
Villa will be fine. We’re ahead of Everton in the stands based on goal differential.
(SBI-You can blame SBI for the jinx after picking Villa to finish third in the league.)
Let just hope they don’t ESPN-ize the broadcasts:
1) Complain about officals 90% of the game
2) 3rd grade humor level jokes
3) Some idiot on the sidelines making obvious statements “they don’t look happy the other team scored”
4)Sports ticker that contains at least 1 Brett Favre thread.
5) Cut in to programing to give you update on different sport I don’t care about.
6) More air-time to Alexi Lalas

How the hell did neither Hull City nor Everton sign Michael Vick when they had the chance?!!!!!!!!!!!
The best goalkeeper the US has ever had is Kasey Keller!!!
Davis>Donovan
thx Mike!
Howard gives up 6 to Gunners. Suit up Friedel.
Charlie Davies Second goal.. First one will be up soon enough so be sure to check back

Enough with the pretenders. The Varsity takes the field tommorow with Man IOU and my Liverpool taking center stage tommorow. Arsenal looks good when its warm and they pass the ball. Talk to me when they have to go to the Northwest during December, January and February when its cold, windy, and rainy. How a team can lose their best defender and top scorer and suddenly be title contenders is unrealistic. If Arsenal wins the league this year, its because Man U, Chelsea, or Liverpool were only average. Villa was the shocker for me. Opening day, home field, against an average side and they lay an egg. They might want to replace Gareth Barry. Just a thought cause Delph wont be ready until next season. Im not impressed with Ancelotti’s Chelsea. I know its early, but they need to get some width on the right side because if they expect Bosingwa to be a fullback and winger all season the better teams will expose them. Tommorow’s predictions, Lasagna FC 1-3 Liverpool and Man AIG 3-1 Birmingham. Last but not least, Charlie Davies. Talk about a purple patch. This guys got a purple forest. He’s in the form of his life
This DC vs toronto looks like it will be good. Both teams have had good chances. Clutch defending so far.
Yes Arsenal 6-1. Great day for the Gunners.
Good day for the SBI gooners and a good confidence builder for the team. But ives is right, jagielka’s absence was a huge factor in the result. Cesc said it best- “we need to keep it real”…the real tests will be on tuesday in Glasgow and the coming weeks vs both manchester teams.
But I am still very very happy with what I saw today. Cesc had a marvelous game and got the chance to pay a very respectful tribute to his late friend and fellow player. I think that he benefits so much from playing with the Spanish national team and learning from players like Xavi and Iniesta. He seems to have stepped it up to another level after Euro08 and now the confederations cup.
(SBI-If Cesc is at his best, Arsenal is clearly in the race. I’ll admit that I was curious as to how all the Barcelona talk would effect him, and if he might just wind up leaving, but if he stays, and if Vermaelen is a stud, Denilson grows up and Arshavin keeps being Arshavin, the Gunners are right there with the best in the league.)
any truth to the rumor Danny Califf has a 3rd leg? I always thought it’d be EJ and Gooch lol
Looks like Sochaux hit a winner.
Davies will score goals and his jersey’s and their club name will rise in the American media.
I hope Davies does at least 2 seasons for them. He has plenty of time to move on up to another BIG club.
CHARLIE DAVIES!! what a PIMP! ok so i have to see these highlights… and i gotta catch his game next week!
two american goalkeepers megged on the same day.
How many goals will Davies score this season?
I say 14 league goals. He has 36 games to go.
14 is pretty damn good for the French league especially for a relegation type team like Sochaux. If Davies does well in the WC like say 2 goals, i can see him moving up to PSG or Marseille.
Maybe the best forward since McBride.
I’m a Liverpool fan but I do like the 4-3-3. Bendtner may not score goals but he’ll sure set them up with Arshavin’s help.
For some reason Arsenal seems to do well despite losing their best players. But why is Van Persie so highly rated? He’s a very good striker but not world class even though he’s playing for 1 of the few world class clubs.
ok people.. somoene link me up to Davie’s goals.. youtube doenst have them yet 🙁
“SBI-Michael, Did you pick them for fourth last year? Somehow I think not… I’m not sure how anyone should be faulted for think they’d have a worse year than last year, when they finished fourth.”
Ives,
Even though you didn’t ask me, I did have Arsenal in the top 4 despite losing Helb and Flaminni, and Gilberto, but granted I was biased.
I believe that there will be improvement by the players over last year this season and we did see that during the campaign even without Cesc in the team. Don’t forget Arsenal went 12 games unbeaten without Cesc, granted they did have 6 draws.
The point is they showed hart, improvement, and quality without Cesc in the line up. Cesc’s absence was good because it forced Song and Denilson to accept more responsibility by default and despite what many said the seeds of Song’s strong performance today were sown during the stretch and the player did improve despite what all the hatters will say, Song made improvements during the campaign last year. I will say that we do need another holding midfielder with more experience than Song and another centerback.
Ade scored 10 goals last year despite suffering a hamstring injury and missing games, but Bendtner scorded 9. Move Bendtner into the starting lineup and we are -1 in theory only, but I just want to make the argument that we can compete.
@GunneRR,
I think it’s great that you are also an Arsenal supporter, but when you say the what you said earlier (see blow for quote) I have to disagree with your statement. Like I mentioned above, we went 12 games unbeaten without Cesc in the league and 19 games unbeaten overall if you include the FA Cup and the Champions League.
“Ives, when considering how Arsenal will fare compared to last year: Remember that their terrible stretch coincided with Fabregas’ injury. When Cesc was around, Arsenal was nearly unbeatable.”
(SBI-Fair enough. If they do well it wouldn’t really shock me, but I saw what other teams did to bolster their squads this summer and didn’t see Arsenal keeping up. Still don’t. Beating up on an Everton team that added nothing in the summer, doesn’t have Jagielka back and has Lescott thinking of Manchester doesn’t mark them title favorites all of a sudden.)
Sverkos is pretty much the best player for Sochaux. If he and Davies can connect, than Sochaux could finish top half of the table.
Without a doubt Davies will be starting. If he keeps this up he will be a top-scorer.
It’s going to be interesting watching Davies this season. Big boots to filled and he made a good first impression on the Montbeliardais considering who he is replacing. Being French, it is great to see that more people are going to be watching Ligue 1 because this season will be very interesting.
Enough about them; Charlie Davies just scored a double for Sochaux against Bordeaux. I didn’t watch because I am a Lyon fan and saw Davies wasn’t starting and so I watched Lyon.
But he came on to start the second half with Sochaux down 2-0. He made it 2-1 in the 61′ by collecting a nice cross from the right hand side and apparently finishing nicely.
Then down 3-1 he scored in stoppage time, off a corner that was headed by his teammate and then Davies apparently was near the keeper but beat him to the ball and put it in!
Davies is on fire, Bordeaux is a very good Champions League-caliber side so well done. I would have to think he will be in the starting lineup soon, Sochaux is not known for having lots of firepower so a double in one half is pretty impressive.
Excited, excited for Davies. Kinda nice to have a young stud striker who gets it done on every level where he gets a chance, no? Carlton definitely backs it up. It’s not unusual when he scores big goals.
Davies can score goals on an international stage and club stage same as Altidore.
Ching and Casey are MLS stars. Keep it that way. Come 2010 I don’t want them on the NT roster.
It should be Altidore and Davies and throw in Cooper and EJ. EJ’s speed might be helpful off the bench in the last 10mins.
Stanky leg?
I just want to know what dances he did, Carlton again or did he go with the Rerun?
Davies doing this in one half of play against Bordeaux is a big deal. Bordeaux is one of the favorites to win Ligue 1 this season. The guy just got off a plane from an exhausting run in Azteca. No predictions for the future, but it is great to see a US player in such good form. Long season ahead. Stay healthy bro!
CHARLIE FREAKING DAVIES!
Scores two for Soschaux today…as a second half substitute!
Davies – Dos
Altidore – Cero
no draws on the first day of the EPL, impressibe! thats just like MLS 😉
The Egyptian comentator on ARR-tv couldn’t stop talking about Davies. “Bordeaux wins 3-2, but Charlie Davies put on a show, Charlie Davies with 2 goals.”
Charlie Davies…this guy is having an incredible summer. Ives – is there anybody in American soccer that you can remember who has burst out with such great form for club and country?
EJ never did it for club, and may others have never done it for country. Davies is the man.
Howard could easily start for Arsenal though he’d be with quick competition every week for Almunia. Face the facts he’s an under-rated keeper but doesn’t make it less than obvious he’s 1 of the top keepers in the world. He’s not the best yeah and won’t be winning any silverware other than a domestic cup, but he’s exceptional.
Davies rules… Goal at the Azteca and then two in Ligue 1. Wow… Now let’s pair him with Jozy up top for the rest of the qualifiers, please!
Davies scored 2 goals with just 45mins on the pitch. Definitely he’ll be top scorer for this season for the club. If he can score 12 goals, than Davies will be a LEGEND.
Tough week for Timmy. Great week for Davies.
I’m happy for Davies. It’s great for his confidence to score two goals in his first home game. It’s great for the Nats if he keeps his form and confidence up too!
Davies is awesome!!!! The best kept secret in Football.
Maybe now he’ll be starting.
Davies scored a second in 90+2
Holy shiteeeeeeeee. A star is born
DAVIES!
davies gol #2
Davies with the second!!!?????? did that go in??
