The first official match of the English Premier League season doesn't kickoff until next week, but today's Community Shield still serves as the unofficial start to the new EPL campaign.
Chelsea and Manchester United are the two favorites to lift the EPL title and will face off today in the match of the day.
U.S. national team fans may prefer to watch Michael Bradley's Bundesliga season debut for Borussia Moenchengladbach, while MLS fans are probably looking forward to tonight's Chicago Fire-Houston Dynamo clash.

PS-United’s away kit looks much better w/ the black and blue. Not a fan of the home kit.
Yo-eff Foster! Get him out of there. Worst keeping I’ve ever seen in a United kit. Absolutely horrid. Sir Alex, time to play Kuszczak because Foster isn’t cutting it!
Does Man City still have Schmeichel’s son warming the bench? Wonder what we could buy him for? hah!
SAF, “Once he has done that, I do not understand why he has not stopped the game when Evra is lying down?”
Because he was way behind the ball and play. I’m glad to see that both teams and officials are not automatically stopping play when a player drops well away from the action. I think it’s a major improvement.
Anyone who saw Ghana in 2006 fall down at every turn-over knew it had to end.
LIONS your an idiot…it will be Cooper and Altidore as our starters at Azteca so that means the others are fighting for the final two spots…barring hes healthy ching will be in South Africa.
I liked the Kenny…..Cooper chants on the video
ESPN are lazy I suppose. They’re gonna be working next week when the PL starts back. Come on YANKS
What the hell is up with ESPN and not updating their scores? The German, French and Dutch matches this entire weekend have not even been touched, whereas the Russian League and every English match (even League Two) have been updated.
Ives, tell Jen Chang and his cronies to get their you know what together
Altidore, Davies are confirmed as our starting strikers.
Ching, Cooper, EJ, Casey are fighting for the 2 final striking positions, those as super-subs.
Cooper pushing forward for a role on the roster for next year. I can see him as our 4th striker behind Altidore, Davies and Ching.
Conor Casey showing how he’s 1 of the best strikers in MLS. I can see he taking the Golden Boot with 18-20 goals this season.
But he can’t cut it internationally. Maybe he can find a return to the 2nd Bundesliga or 1 of the top teams in Scandinavia
While United did suffer from a no-call, it only further proves why you shouldn’t leave the game in their hand.
Evra was pushed but it appeared he also could have kept his feet and recovered.
Rooney was offsides for the equalizer, anyhow, so the football gods had their say.
Sir Alex needs to retract his comment that the Evra play was ” why they lost the match “.
Sorry, no…Cech blocking two Penalty Kicks was why you lost the match.
Great way to start off the season, especially, if you don’t like ManUre.
Ballack shove was great
Hey, I just read Freddy Adu’s Twitter and he said “Oh so close. News coming soon.” Finally a transfer?
Is it too late to mention that Man United’s shirts are just silly? Looks like a spaceman’s uniform from a 1950s sci-fi B-movie.
Glad to see chelsea finally win when they get to penalties (announcer said they hadnt won one since 1998).
Hope this is an omen that ManU wont win every competition Sepp can think up this season.
Cheers to Cooper for the goal, and solid minutes from Gooch, Davies, and Bradley. Hope USMNT is in shape and on the same page on wednesday, I’ll find a stream somewhere and be watching.
The Yanks are coming!
bradley got subbed off in the 70th or so.
Dc looks better against real madrid than rbny did against wc (and I am a rb fan). Wallace is impressive
DC is wayyy bettern’ Real
Salt Lake.
wicks is playin’ pretty decent.
DCU. That was NOT offsides on Pontius. Crap call
The Man U shirts look like the old Mexico shirts
patrick
Right on man, I’m with you…classic post
@kingsnake
no one is refreshing waiting for that, and honestly, it’s getting a bit old. This isn’t a red bull blog, it’s not a new york/nj blog so I’m not sur what you, and everyone else think they’re going to accomplish by continually posting “fire osorio”. Its old, immature and not going to get anything done. Start a petition or a blog, don’t post comments here.
