  1. Tottenham 2 – 1 Liverpool.

Benitez was furious with referee Phil Dowd for turning down two late penalty appeals.

Dowd ruled that Assou-Ekotto’s barge on Andriy Voronin and Fernando Torres cross which hit Assou-Ekotto on the arm were not spot-kicks.

However, I still feel that that Liverpool deserved nothing from this match.

  2. marc,

if i got hit like that after being in a confrontation, I certainly would not want him in jail. It was a fight in a pub, I’m sure neither party recalls what it was about. It’s clear you don’t like gerrard, which is fine, but dont give me this garbage about how he got off. His frends plead guilty and the sentences were suspended, so what are you really complaining about? No one is doing jail time and he didn’t even initiate the fight.

Would it have been a big deal if he hit you like that? Easy to say that when your not the got getting hit…how do you know he wasn’t hurt all that much? Were you there?

Bottm line is got off scott-free and shouldn’t have…

  4. what exactly would you like to see for gerrard? in the us, if someone got into a fight like that they’d plead to disorderly conduct pay a fine and maybe 6 months probation. In any league other than the nfl they wouldnt miss any games. Did bein steven gerrard help? of course but the guy wasn’t hurt all that much. If you dont like him, that’s fine but the incident wasn’t a big deal

I’m almost certain that Papa Bouba Diop HAS to be the favorite.

  6. Gerrard never pled guilty….I do see it as a huge deal…the other five guys pled guilty and were charged….the film clearly showed him at fault….he got away with it because of who he is….

I know the story of Lampard and Terry in the airport…the England players get a break all around…but the public who is the jury is to blame for that…especially in Gerrards case…

I’m not a big fan of John Terry…as a person or a footballer (slow of foot, a bit of a thug and not as good of a player as some would have you believe)…and no I don’t think he should be the England captain either…

FWIW, I don’t think England will get past the quarter-finals, at best, in South Africa…they lack speed and athleticism, espically in their back four, don’t have any great goal keepers (Rob Green is the best of the bunch) and lack a second striker to pair with Wayne Rooney. Capello is a very good coach, the talent is just not there for this Cup to win it or seriously contend…

It’s just my opinion, but in order for England to get better some of their top players need to consider playing in Spain, Germany and Italy…it will only help the team as a whole…

  7. Marc you have a point but Gerrard was charged right and pleaded guilty i believe. He got an argument and had a fight. I don’t see the HUGE deal. It’s not like he ever did this before.

what of Frank Lampard? He was in a porno and made fun of Americans after 9/11 while publicly intoxicated.

John Terry? Public intoxication along with Lampard and harassing Americans after 9/11. Parked in a handicapped spot.

  8. J. Jones is out with a hair line fracture on one of his legs until late September/early October…

I really have a hard time with Gerrard even being on the field after watching/hearing about him walk scott-free from beating up that guy in the club…I have family (my mom is English) in that part of the country and the feeling is, if he were not an England International and club captain, he would have been convicted…at the very least he should not be wearing the captain’s arm band….at least in the USA, as we have seen over the past year, athletes don’t get away with this sort of crap…

Liverpool has no depth and the loss of Alonzo is going to be huge. Selling him was a huge mistake. I’m not a fan of Benitz who I think is a bit overrated as a manager.

  10. Predictions for how many goals Yanks will score this year in league play?

I have Dempsey down for 9 (1 of the highest scoring mid-fielders in the league)

    Altidore will have 8 goals.

    Davies will have 14.

  11. Glen Johnson was brought down by Gomes in the penalty area and Liverpool awarded a PK and Gerrard shot straight top in the middle and went in. 1-1. Liverpool gonna win this.

  12. DC and New England at this point won’t have them until 2012, at the earliest.

Portland will be fine, but Vancouver likely will be in BC place.

  13. When will every team in MLS have their own stadium?

New York and Philadelphia have their stadiums next year.

Kansas City, San Jose, New England, Houston, DC should have their own in 2010 or 2011.

  15. Boca just got turned on at midfield, and then the player went on to outrun 3 or 4 other players en route to the top of the box where he put a wonderful shot down in the bottom right corner.
