It's a light day of action in the soccer world, but there are at least a few matches worth taking in if you can see them.
Start with the Peace Cup in Spain, where Aston Villa will take on Juventus in the final. Brad Guzan and Eric Lichaj started for Villa in the semifinal and should start yet again today. MLS has an offering today as well, with Seattle taking on the San Jose Earthquakes.
Before we get to your commentary, take a moment to read this very good piece on the late Bobby Robson, a true legend.

Gene Simmons…I mean Del Piero would make a great fot for the Galaxy
I want to thank God for so many awesome soccer games lately. seriously, this is wonderful.
Del Piero got OWNED! that is the first i have ever, ever seen Del Piero miss a PK! wow.
wow. seattle got slammed! i was at the Quakes game last week vs. DC, and they impressed me with their comeback. i was also rocking the book THE BECKHAM EXPERIMENT. point is, the quakes had fire.
and boy, did they burn today! geez! im a sounders fan and this had to have been embarrassing. wow!
thats what i love about soccer, even some supposedly bad teams can turn out an awesome performance!
I like Guzan over Perkins. Looked good when he shut out Egypt.

Pretty much everyone does. There’s no contest at all. Guzan has been our #2 for the past 1-2 years.
Damn, some MK Dons fan commented that Jemal Johnson’s hat-trick were all 20+ yard bombs. How many more of these is he gonna have, I bet they were with his oppisite foot…like he did alot last season.
Gregg, can you explain how a 2nd yellow for dissent can be handed out in less than 2 seconds, when the rule specifically states that Dissent can not be given for “an emotional outburst?”
USSF used footage of after the Red was shown as justification of the Red.
The refs are not good but they are basically the same in every match for every club. The fact that Seattle keeps shooting themselves in the foot by drawing red cards is not a referee problem, it is a Sounders problem. Although the Sounders were outplayed from whistle to whistle, I have to think they would have been a different team with Ljungberg. Was Ljungberg’s dissent worth the three points vs. San Jose? Was his dissent worth falling six points behind Houston? They have to quit bitching about getting a raw deal and start taking responsibility for what happens.
I like Guzan over Perkins. Looked good when he shut out Egypt.
appropriate pic for today. not! del piero takes over for vaughan from everton at the all star game with the worst pk i’ve ever seen hit by a professional player
not much going on in the news department today huh, Ives?
Nice weekend for American internationals, young and old.
patrick….goal keeping is not the least skilled position….I was a striker and later attacking midfielder myself and have no desire to play goalie as I found out in youth football that it is position that takes much longer to learn and mature into…why do you think most goal keepers don’t hit their peak period until they are around 30….
Guzan stopped 3 Pks and villa won the Peace cup. Guzan is improving and doing well. I hope he gets more playing time in the prem before the world cup.
true, but you would think that specialization at one thing (goal keeping) would trump that, but I could be wrong. I do believe that goal keeping being the least “soccer skilled” position is to our advntage as our other sports, particularly basketball and football are all about angles, an cutting down angles, etc.
Way of Topic. Jack McInerney US – U17 striker is on a trial at Vitesse in Holland. Article says he is a Wayne Rooney type player. Let’s Hope!!!
