Soccer Tuesday: Your Running Commentary

Didier Drogba (AP)

If you were thinking that today would be a quiet day in the soccer world, think again.

From UEFA Champions League qualifiers (like Arsenal-Celtic), to a heavy slate of English Premier League matches (like Chelsea-Sunderland), to CONCACAF Champions League play, there is plenty on the slate today.

If you will be watching today's action, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action.

  1. Columbus played a great game. That GK that kept PR in the game is a former Crew goalie, too.

PR bunkered, so Bobby W felt no real danger by with pulling Zayner for Lenhart and shifting to a 3-4-3 and going for it, and it paid off. Great game by Columbus, and great moves by Warzycha.

If only it would work out that easy against Cruz Azul and Saprissa.

  2. Great comment over at the Guardian about Arsenal-Celtic, in the 83d minute:

Arsenal are completely dominated now, just straddling the line between excellence and cockiness

  3. Columbus absolutely dominated the half. A couple of strong saves from the PR goalie and an absolutely horrific no call on the PR tackle in the box in the 44th have kept scoreless. If you believe the ESPN piece that claims Bob Bradley likes guys that are “hard to play” against, he must love the Islanders.

  4. Celtic may have been unlucky but they never threatened in their own park. And the second was either going to be an own goal or an Arsenal goal. Basically, the Gunners had better luck as a result of their superior play and greater attack.

  6. I meant to do this a few days ago.

Those of you whom read the Huffington Post, you might be aware of their request for readers to pick their Game Changers: 100 People Who are Using new Media to Change the World. There are a number of categories and one of them is for sport. I think it’s more than safe to say and nominate Ives for what’s he accomplished not only with this blog but also the fact that he’s a contributor to ESPN and a few others. If you feel the same click on the following link and let the rest of the world know. Definitely forward on to others.

  8. Arsenal goal in the 42nd minute. Fabregas takes a free kick which deflects off of Gallas and into the net! 1-0, Arsenal with an away goal, and you’d have to say things are looking bleak for Celtic.

  9. GLORIOUS HD I LOVE YOU

Full HD + Dolby 5.1 surround sound = one happy Comcast SportsNet customer.

Celtic are finding openings throughout Arsenal, although they are leaving themselves open in the back. (no I’m not watching a porn)

  12. In the champions league match, Denilson tracks back to stop a Celtic counter from ending in a good goal scoring opportunity.

As I was typing that, Sunderland score to go up 1-0! Bent in the 18th minute, collecting the ball from a deflected shot (I think by Jones, I wasn’t watching at the time).

  13. For Fantasy EPL players, Andy Keogh scored for Wolves against Wigan. They lead early 1-0.

    Nenad Milijas with the assist.
