Americans Abroad: Weekend Rewind

After a few forgettable weekends, the Americans Abroad bounced back with some positive performances this weekend.

Brad Friedel was one of the bright spots, making six saves in Aston Villa's 2-0 victory over Portsmouth. Friedel's cleansheet performance was his third consecutive.

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard also pitched a shutout, saving four shots in the team's 3-0 triumph against Blackburn. The cleansheet was Howard's first of the season, and gave the Toffees their second win of the year.

Another first in the EPL season was Jozy Altidore earning his first start. Altidore played 64 minutes for Hull City in their 1-0 loss to Birmingham.

England

  • Marcus Hahnemann dressed but did not play in Wolverhampton Wanderers' 2-1 win vs. Fulham on Sunday.

  • Jay DeMerit did not dress in Watford's 3-3 draw vs. Leicester City on Saturday.
  • Frank Simek dressed but did not play in Sheffield Wednesday's 3-2 loss vs. Sheffield United on Friday.

  • Ian Joyce dressed but did not play in Southend United's 3-2 win vs. Brighton on Saturday.
  • Zak Whitbread did not dress in Millwall's 3-1 win vs. Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
  • Mike Grella came off the bench and played 9 minutes in Leeds United's 4-0 win vs. Gillingham on Saturday.
  • Jemal Johnson started and played 90 minutes in Milton Keynes Dons' 1-0 win vs. Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
  • Jon-Paul Pittman came off the bench and played 44 minutes in Wycombe Wanderers' 1-0 loss vs. Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday.

Scotland

  • Maurice Edu did not dress in Rangers' 0-0 draw vs. Kilmarnock on Saturday. He is recovering from an injury.
  • DaMarcus Beasley did not dress in Rangers' 0-0 draw vs. Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Italy

  • Oguchi Onyewu dressed but did not play in AC Milan's 1-0 win vs. Bologna on Saturday.

  • Michael Bradley dressed but did not play in Borussia Moenchengladbach's 4-2 loss vs. TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday.
  • Steve Cherundolo started, played 90 minutes and received a yellow card in Hannover 96's 1-1 draw vs. Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
