Hertha Berlin midfielder Bryan Arguez has been added to the U.S. national team roster that will compete in the U-20 World Cup in Egypt later this month, sources told SBI on Tuesday.

Arguez was summoned to replace forward Sam Garza, who will miss the tournament due to injury. The 20-year-old will join a team that already boasts talented youngsters such as Mikkel Diskerud, Brek Shea and Dilly Duka.

The U.S. was drawn into Group C with Germany, Cameroon and Korea Republic. The Americans open the tournament on Sept. 26 against Germany.

What do you think of Arguez's inclusion to the roster? Will he make an impact in Egpyt? Think he should have been called in from the start?

  1. Arguez deserve a chance, his in in the development stage like all of the players in the roster after all they are only 19,20 and some even 17. As for Taylor he is the most skillful of them all. I think he only went to 2 tryout in Europe and didn’t land a contract that doesn’t mean he is not good enough. He is only 19. I saw him in Bradenton several times and he is amazing, He is not a target player like Altidore, but he is a playmaker. The team have to play around him and you will see soccer. Give the guys a chance. The last world cup we only had as a star Adu, but he was a made up star the rest of the guys have to prove and this team will proof to the world they are good enough. So stop talkin bs about the players because non of the are mature at this point, they all are missing the maturity that will only come with age and development. Apriciate there up comming talent.

  2. jimmy why are you hating on a 19 yr old US prospect? you need to think about your comments. He is 5’6 150lbs and yes thats short for a soccer player, but he has been playing in italy for 3 years and scored a good amount of goals. i agree with anthony and think its a shame he should’ve definitely been on the roster.

  3. As i recall Diskeruud mentioned in an old interview when we was called up for a camp in portugal that the player that most impressed him was Bernardo.

when i said attacking player i meant in the forward position. Bernardo is a true number 10 and could’ve helped out in the goal department. its a shame.

  4. Diskeruud is the best player on this team and closest to a full NT cap. Bernardo, thats a joke. He’s looking at League 1 teams, looking forward to the anti-League 1 bias here.

  5. Bernardo is way better than any of the attacking players on this u20 roster. Big mistake not to bring him for the world cup. USA will regret this roster after they play 3 games and get on the plane back home.

Nazzani is in the same situation as ferrari. C1 with no/very little playing time.

  6. Diskeruud is a stud. He starts on the defending champion of the Norway league… His team (Stabaek IF) took the league title from teams like Rostenborg and Brann which have made some noise in the Champions League and UEFA. Unfortunately Stabaek keeps drawing quality French and Spanish teams in the qualifiers for Champions League and UEFA.

  7. Actually Bernardo Rejected the loan to a Seria C team. Bernardo also was offered a 2-year extension with Napoli but i guess decline since he is clubless…which makes you wonder why decline those options unless you have offers from other county’s

  8. @cyprus I respect your post and have to agree with most of them…if I had to nit pick I would say Tony Taylor wont be a significant role in this team. If you have been following the group which you said you have you would know that he went on trial without about 4 teams this summer and came back with 0 contracts. All teams said he was not ready for first team ball and needed some work. Again respect your opinions just informing you about some other aspects.

  9. Bernardo and Arguez = overrated

I can’t believe some people believe the hype about Bernardo. His PR machine has people out there thinking he’s great. He can’t get games even at the Primavera level.

Personally, I would have called in Mayen but I am sure it will work out.

It’s too bad for Garza. I heard he impressed in camp.

  10. I have followed this team every camp and and every friendly and every qualifier. Don’t tell me that my comment is baseless when you display no evidence to support your reasoning that this team will place last in their group.

People need to realize that some of our players in Europe such as Nazzani and Bernardo were simply not good enough to make this team. Diskeruud is more accomplished than any U-20 from the last cycle. Tony Taylor will surprise people. I could go on and on but everyone should have some faith in this team. It’s not the best team in the world, but it could definitely turn some heads.

You can display your opinion. I have no problem with that, but evidently you have a problem with me presenting mine.

  11. Felix signed with Houston came in and did not do well at all. He ended up leaving training sessions saying he was too tired and missed the first meeting of the year. He is not playing PDL for nayone he is not playing period. End of story.

  12. I Thought Felix Garcia had signed w/ Houston and was playing PDL in Austin. Is this incorrect? Really want to know . . . Ives? Beuller?

  13. bernardo doesnt even have a team and is not even that good. Not even a seria c side would pick him up. And as for nazzani he is just a ferrari 2.0. those 2 r too hyped.

  14. Would really love to see an update story on Felix Garcia and what happened to him after signing that contract with FC Dallas. It seems such a weird story.

  15. The Italians are myths, driven by our needless handwringing over that other Italian. At least Arguez has the advantage of having performed for the U20s before (and being one of the youngest guys on that team).

That said, it still puzzles me. He is either too indisciplined or he isn’t. Besides, it was a forward who got injured. Why not bring Fuad Ibrahim? He’s not getting much PT in Toronto.

  16. Bernardo is not good enough to make this squad so people need to stop saying things like that, he simply is not good enough end of story. I saw Nazzani play in Bradenton and I can tell you he is not better then anyone of the backs that Rongen selected. This is a solid team lets see how they do!

  17. Yeah, not having many pros is actually going to be an advantage for us, as most of the Euro clubs with players on or near the first team won’t be released for this tournament. I don’t understand why FIFA schedules this tournament during such weird times – the last 2 had marquee players and better all-around teams

  18. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Germany not make it out of the group. They’re bringing a mix between a B-C squad, that could turn into a C squad if more people aren’t allowed to go.

  19. This call-up is not a huge surprise. If you compare Rongen’s qualifying roster to the WC roster, he left off Arguez, Schuyler, and Okugo, and added Diskerud, Opara, Stephens, and Powers. Mix and Opara probably would have played if available for the WCQs. In contrast, Stephens and Powers haven’t been involved as much before — they must have impressed Rongen more recently. Out of Arguez, Schuyler, and Okugo, Scuyler did not do much to impress. Okugo has had some bright spots, but is only a 91 so he can play in next U20 cycle. Seems Powers has bumped him out as the young gun. Arguez started 3 of the 5 WCQ matches and has been called into to several U20 camps, so we can assume Rongen knows and likes him well enough. Not sure if TR will use the 4-3-3 again or revert to a 4-4-2. Either way, Arguez might not have a starting spot anymore now that TR has Diskerud and still seems to like J. Jeffrey.

I may not know anything about this team, but perhaps I know more than you. To read an ignorant and baseless statement like yours in today’s progressive society saddens me; we all have our opinions, I was simply expressing mine.

  21. some people who watch the Bradenton practices have said Nazzani is nothing special and Bernardo is more hype than anything. I don’t mind these college call ups if they’re producing for Rongen. This is almost like the MLS vs small European league argument. College vs Someone training with a professional team.

  22. I would have included him from the start, but that’s just me.

Rongen better be right about omitting guys like Bernardo and Nazzani for some college guys (aka pull another Subotic), or there is going to be some UPSET US fans.

  23. they used to show the games on ESPNU- might still considering how many guys are actually college players. excited to see how we do against yet another tough group. Let’s go Young Yanks!

  24. Sounds like Rongen is forgiving Arguez’s behavioral problems. It’s a tough opener vs. Germany but I think we still move through to the next round. Perk’s a stud and has a solid D in front of him.

  25. Why Arguez? What not Felix Garcia….

Why would they call in Garcia? He isn’t even playing soccer. He has fallen off the face of the earth.

  26. good hope he can put whatever the problem was before behind him and bring this team to some wins. i have heard he is a great player… i also heard that the US youth system is great at losing top prospects. now lets see if i can wake up on Saturday 26th morning at 8 am MT to watch them beat Germany…maybe…
