One minute he's going, the next it's null and void. Heath Pearce, who had agreed to terms with Turkish club Bursaspor, seemed to have a contract signed and sealed. A press conference was even organized introducing Pearce as a new signing at the club.

According to the club's website, the move hit a last minute snafu over the final details, and the changes were made too late leaving Pearce, once again, without a club. To have any hope of making a return to the U.S. national team, first team action is a necessity for the defender. A return to MLS is a possibility as well, with FC Dallas previously mentioned.

What do you think of the Pearce's inability to find a new club? Is he cursed? Where do you think he should go? Share your thoughts below.

  1. John and everyone,

“arrogant and narcissistic” how well do you know Heath? How many of you were present for the negotiations with Bursaspor? I happen to be in the fortunate position of having gotten to know Pearce along with many other professional soccer, baseball, and football players. To judge these people the way you guys do with absoloutly no basis for your claims is insane.

He will be a star in Dallas, he will use that leverage to rebuild his career and re-earn his starting spot on the USMNT in time for SA. Then hw will decide after all of that if and when he returns to europe.

  2. Assuming that reports are accurate that the deal fell through because of Pearce’s demands, I am left to wonder how moronic one can be when you are already given a lifeline to your fledging career and yet continue to push the limits of your luck. This shows how arrogant and narcissistic he is thinking that he is better than what he can really offer in the pitch. Heath, it’s time for you to wake up and to realize that you are not all that! Continue with this self-absorbing attitude and you would get what you deserve, which is likely a much less attractive contract with FC Dallas in terms of pay and quality of play.

“The club probably found out that he didn’t actually play for the German National team like their first release said. ”

  5. Pearce did not help himself at all in the last few games he played for the USMNT. At times, he’s seemed like a good option, but he gets turned inside out by average wingers on a game to game basis….No top level team wants to sign an average left back. I say if he moves back to MLS, he’ll probably still go to the WC, but definately wont be seeing much time.

  6. I hate to make the blog sound like a broken record, but why is this an issue? If he is out of contract, he should be able to sign with another club outside of the transfer window. He definitely shouldn’t come back to MLS, however. It is critical for his development to find a situation in Europe that works.

  7. You all are believing what the Bursaspor website said. To claim that he is an idiot or a dummy requires that you believe Bursaspor’s excuses. And that’s just ridiculous. But at the same time, it’s pretty typical of a lot of commenters on this blog. You hear one thing from one source, and treat it as truth.

I think the team was acting shady.

  8. If the deal fell through because of Pearce (or his agent) trying to squeeze a couple extra lira out of Bursaspor, than they are idiots.

As I wrote before, now he leaves himself in a tougher bargaining position, and will earn even less, especially if he has to come to MLS.

    Way to blow it Heath.

  9. Wow! His demands made the deal fall apart from what the english version of the teams site says. Who is this guy? He just left a years worth of money, playing in decent league and any shot at WC2010 on the table.

  10. Too bad, but is sounds like he brought this on himself by trying to tweak the contract in the 11th hour. That or his agent did. Either way, it ain’t good. Get on the plane to Dallas….

  14. I read on a trukish website that it was Pearce not the club that was responsible for the collapse. Allegedly he couldnt come to a wage agreement. What a dummy!!! To take himself out of the running for S. Africa all for a bigger slice of the pie which he probably didnt deserve

  15. Who has last minute transfer issues when they are not on the field to begin with? The situation itself is sketchy. The guy hasn’t played on a field at all… one would think that this should have flown through and he could make up for it if he had the least bit of confidence in his play.

  16. At one point I agreed with a guy who suggested we turn him in to soylent green so he’d be useful. After a while, my opinion changed. It seems that now he’s back in the soylent green category. I’ve seen him do well so I believe he can reach that level again. I hope it happens for him.

  17. Players like him and Beasley have a lot to prove. They were doing pretty well and then they fell to the depths. Both need to stop fooling around in Europe and get back to MLS. If DaMarcus can terminate his contract in anyway, I’d do it now, unless he gets a surge of playing time.

  18. He needs to just go to MLS, get some playing time and take it from there. He’s fallen so fast that’s its actually been impressive. Atleast he’s succeeding at failure. That’s gotta count for something.

  19. I keep hearing about how he is the best option at left back…if that’s true, we’re in trouble at the WC next summer (assuming qualification). He’s not that great.

  20. As Felix said, may be a great left back going forward( partially because he was originally a forward), and Bocanegra may be a great stay at home full back, but Pearce is the best of both worlds. That performance he had against Argentina was amazing, he was a masterclass offensively and defensively, and he almost had a goal to seal it. We know he’s got great potential and all he’s really missing, like Beasley, and Freddy, is playing time, except now he’s got no club to give it to him. Returning to MLS is really his only option. My question is does he have to stay without a club, for the entire time until the winter transfer window, or is there a different rule for free agents?

  21. maybe there was some sort of grace period after the contract was signed by both parties were the club can decide to void it without it becoming binding….thats my guess

  22. I think this sucks bad for Pearce and USMNT fans. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I think he’s our best all-around LB, and for to be playing regularly in a strong league like the Turkish SuperLig could only be good for him. Now, he’ll HAVE to return to MLS which won’t leave him in a strong bargaining position, could be detrimental to his motivation and to a future chance of returning to Europe.

I’m very disappointed this fell through.

  23. Some shady things go on in the world of soccer, especially in certain countries. Who knows what really happened. Still, it would have been a fairly good level for him to play at.

Is Friedel still the only Ami to play in the Turkish league? He did well at Gala. Kasey Keller was close to joining Besiktas once but it fell thru also. Boswell I thought was going there more recently but didn’t.

  24. Agree with Tony, transfer window rules don’t apply to Pearce since he is out of contract. Look at Mark Viduka negotiating with West Ham and Peter Lovenkrands signing with Newcastle last February
